Currently in the market for a used R1200RT, but I need some advice. I've been reading up on the differences between the 06 and 07 model, and it seems that the biggest difference is the braking system. 06 has the power assited brakes and 07 does not, and most people seem to prefer the 07 model braking system as the power assisted one is too sensitive.
I'm switching over from a Harley to the beemer, so I don't have any previous experience with beemer brake system.

Is the difference that great and noticeable?

Also, would you recommend buying a used bike directly from a person or from a dealer? Common sense would indicate I can get a better deal from a direct seller vs the dealer, who'll have the price marked up. This granted that the private owner has maintained the bike and has proof with the paperwork.

I suggest you test ride both bikes, I have the 06 and would not trade for the weaker breaking 07 (but I'm sure you can find someone that would say the same in favor of the 07).

By the way, they don't feel "too" powerful. The breaks do work well, but don't think there are over sensitive, I've never had more confidence with a set of breaks.

I have had both and it would not be a deal breaker either way for me.

How often do you have to get the valves adjusted?

And for the ex-Harley owners, are the maintenance costs for beemers comparable if they were to be done at the dealers?

I would like to the know the very same thing, I don't know for sure, but I think it's every 6K miles, someone please tell me different since my bike just turned 6k miles and I have a 700 mile trip next weekend.

Thank you,

Michael

PS. I've searched for technical information regarding adjusting my own valves, and I can't find anything.

6,000 miles is correct (10,000 KM for those of us in Canada). My cost for labour at the dealer for the 10,000 KM service was $280.

You are supposed to check the valves every 6k, but that doesn't mean they will need to be adjusted. You can do it yourself if you can turn a wrench.

I looked but could not find valve adjustment instructions, step by step would be really nice, does anyone know if there available on this site? I even checked to see if there was a You Tube instructional video, nothing.

Thank you,

Michael
