I can get an 08 RT demo with less than 1,000 KM on it for a discount of @ $1,700 off the full purchase price. It will also come with its first break in service complete. Does anyone have experience with buying demos? Is this a good deal in your opinion?

I bought my LT as an ex-demonstrator. In fact it was the bike I test rode and I more or less walked back into the shop and told then to wrap her up. It was nicely bedded in and has never given me any trouble in 30k.

I bought my RT as a demo and have had no complaints. You couldn't tell it had ever been ridden. ith the dealer 150 miles away, it was a plus not to have to take it back for the 600 mile service.

well that means you can add the 350 to the discount as that is what the 600 mile service runs.

What's to worry . Most folks respect new bikes when they are allowed to demo them and I would not hesitate for a second. I had a chance to do the same thing and did not , but only because there was still a lot of difference in the equipment it had and I'd have to spend two grand more at least so I passed ., it sold the same day anyway.

I bought my 07 in Jan 08 and got $1800 off w/ no miles. But as for buying a demo BMW, I would. I don't imagine too many kids come thrash on a RT test ride.

I have bought 2 BMW demos over the years with no problems. First service is worth more like $500 in Canada. Make sure the warranty starts the day you purchase, this way you have 3 years of coverage if there is anything that goes wrong.

Can not hurt to see if they will throw in a tank bag as part of the deal as well.

Ask for greater discount and or big price break on accessories or clothing... then buy it.

I bought my 08 RT as a demo for 1700-ish off. It was well worth it and no problems so far....6500 happy miles. :)

Much depends on your view of how an engine should be broken in. If you believe the common advice of keeping the revs down, no hard acceleration, etc. then a demo may not be for you. You'd need to believe that folks taking a demo ride never wanted to see how well the bike accelerated and took the revs to the upper limits. Personally, I think more will push the bike than will keep within the break-in constraints on a demo ride. However, if you subscribe to the theory that it is better to take the engine to high revs to seat parts then a demo may be okay. Hope I haven't turned your thread into a debate about how to break-in a bike.

Do what you will, but I would never buy a demo bike. http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/images/smilies/headshake.gif Just my http://totalmotorcycle.com/BBS/images/smiles/twocents_smilie.gif

Bought a 2005 in November of that year. Build date was 12/2004. Had 760 miles on it and got close to $3000 off list. Would definitely do again.

And here in lies the problem. We want dealers to offer demo rides so we can try out the bikes and find out which one is the right one for us, but then we don't want to buy a demo bike from the fear that it was abused before we got on it. I used to be in Joe's camp, but now think that to have the privilege of doing demo rides, I should be willing to buy a demo bike with out asking the dealer or somebody else to eat the cost of demo rides. Mostly I buy used, so this isn't really anything other than an easily held philosophical concept for me and I'm not passing judgment on anyone else's values, just an observation.
