View Full Version : Installation Angle Question on J-Pegs

Just picked up my 2006 LT after the 600 mile service and dealer installation of new J-Pegs.

I may be a candidate for the XL version, but I want to be sure that this is not an installation issue first, as I am 5'11 with a 31" inseam (riding boots on).

The j-pegs appear to be angled at about 70-80 degrees when open, and fall in well under the black plastic wing of the tip-over protection bar (photos attached). Note that the angle of the extended j-peg is nearly identical to the angle of the leading edge of the rider and passenger footrests.

If you have these on your bike, does anyone see any issues with the appearance of this installation?

My experience when riding is that these feel too close in, requiring an uncomfortable bend of the knee, and requires my boot to rest on the outer edge of the sole, instead of flat across the j-peg.

While I can upgrade to XL, the curved shape may still be a problem if these were incorrectly installed as being angled too far in.

Thanks for your help.

Scotter,

I have the XL version on my 2003 - and I am 5'11" w/ 31" inseam also.

I have no trouble with the position of the j-pegs when open. I am able to put my boot (instep area) on them with no discomfort. If anything, it took me a bit to get used to feeling like I was spread-eagle (so to speak).

The installation is simple, and there really is no way to install them "to far in"...

The XLs are a direct bolt-on replacement for the regular J-Pegs. They don't install any differently. For that matter...there is only one way to install either version. There is no adjustment, period.

Thanks for your responses. The installation was indeed done correctly.

Both the manufacturer and the dealer have been very responsive to the issue. I simply need the XL version and the dealer is willing to swap these out for me.

I recommend anyone who is considering the purchase of J-Pegs, whether standard or XL, find a bike with them installed to determine which is the best fit for the rider. I had seen the XL's on a friend's bike and thought that this was what I was getting, not knowing there were two types.

Just a quick note to let you know that both the manufacturer , CCmotorcycles, and my dealer, BMW of Denver, were super helpful and easy to work with on this. The manufacturer sent a new set of the XL arms in exchange for the standard size, and the dealer did the installation swap.
