Need a little help converting from HD-Ultra to BMW...can anyone tell me about 2up riding on a rt? comfort for passenger? comfort for passenger with tour pack on back? or am i better off looking at the LT? We only ride about 200-300 miles per day. Any feedback would help in our discission process Im 6'4" 230lbs and wife is 5"4" 110 lbs. Just looking for some honest opinions from you all, this is really a great site thanks.

for comfort and amenities the LT is the way to go...
heated seat, heated grips, heated backrest for passanger, cruise, radio, cd player, NOAA weather, intercom.
Karen and I ride 300-350 mile days sometimes for 30-40 days.
The LT is pure luxury, especially for the passanger. (has a princess seat)

The LT is the comfort king, but the RT isn't bad.
The only reason to pick the RT over the LT for two up touring is weight.
At 830 lbs , carrying it on top, it is a bit of a beast in the slow city stop and go.

Some will say no problem, but some , like me, have switched.

Out on the road, the LT is best. I have done equal mileage on both. My wife has yet to ride on the RT (One other factor in getting rid of the LT to RT, the RT is a much better solo bike, light, nimble, easier to do maintenance on, etc).

Your best bet is to take a test ride on both, with your wife, and then decide. Given a choice, she'll decide on the LT, but if you aren't comfortable on it, she might sense that, and be more at ease on the RT also.

It all depends on the individuals.

My longest day on the LT was 650 miles, on the RT 700 miles. My longest trip on the LT was 1500 miles, on the RT 3000 miles. So I have some experience with both.

Happy shopping :)

My wife and I rode both before we purchased the RT, but mostly due to she only rides a couple times a year and I ride every day. I was surprised that the LT was pretty easy to handle in town, what turned me off was I rode a 2 year old one and it had major rattles, squeaks and brake noise that would drive me insane and none of the RT's I've tried shared those traits. Also the RT is super easy to work on and low cost is a good thing.

I don't know about low cost on a beemer, guess that is subjective. However I just re upped for a new RT and so far I am exstatic with the way it handles and the smoother new engine from the 1150 to the 1200. I am no where near break in yet and power is already very impressive. My favorite thing is the adjustable wind screen, You can get a bit of in your face sport feeling with a full face helmet on or dial it up and down for precise sound quieting effects. I adjust it a lot as my speed and need changes. The newer ones are much lighter in weight than earlier model RT's and feel even lighter and nimble under way. I can't say enough about it really.

To be honest if I were going to go the LT route I think I'd rather go with a Gold Wing as the majority of the weight is down much lower. For my style though I can not give up the sporty handling and can afford only one bike that has to do it all. That is the RT's calling in my view. It is almost a sport bike and handles very much like my old R model did but bagged up with top box and back rest and windshield it seems transformed into a two up tourer.
Best of both worlds if you ask me and the sounds of the old twin are just down right musical. Did I say I love the new bike. LOL
