I just borrowed this from a friend. A great DVD set, Ewan McGregor and his buddy Charlie ride BMW GS adventures from London thorugh Russia and on to the states. 21,000 miles and 120 days on the road. It lots of fun to watch and makes me want to get a GS and head to South America.

A Two Thumbs Up and a must see for any motorcyclist.

I bet KTM is kicking themselves for backing out of furnishing the bikes.

P.S.
Check out the Dakar Rally, now showing on OLN network for more extreem offroad adventure.

Yes, I found myself wishing for more when the series ended; and the book didn't add anything new to the camera coverage in my opinion, so the DVD set is very good. And yes... KTM fumbled that one.

By the way, this set is on Ebay right now. Should be able to get it for around $15 or so. Well worth it. Three thumbs up... don't ask.

Yep, we finished watching the DVD last week, and I finished the book a couple of days ago. It was interesting, and fun to watch them struggle and grow.

There's now a 10-episode version out in the UK, rather than the 6 (US) or 7 (UK) episode versions out now. I may just have a friend buy it and send it over.

Also, Charlie Boorman and friends have pulled together a team and are currently riding in the Paris-Dakar Rally, which is going on this week. More info at http://www.racetodakar.com/

Yep .... a friend just let me borrow it this past long weekend. It was great! It did make me realize that is one trip I do not desire to make!! But it was great watching it. It is available on Amazon for $14.

Yes, it's been on TV twice and I TiVo'd it both times. I also bought the DVD (I don't think it is the 10 episode version though) and was given both the softcover and hardcover versions of their book.

Note the book has them "talking" a lot about growing up and wanting motorcycles (very interesting reading) as well as thoughts about the trip.

Great Adventure - a must see. The new longer version will be out in the US sometime in February.

I DVR'ed the whole series when they played it on SPEED. But, I'm still going to get the DVD set. I really enjoyed it. Even for a couple of pampered purty boyz "roughing it" around the world! :D

Ya, really, two support vehicles, a camera motorcycle and sat. phones. Must be nice.

What's interesting is that they knew all that. Ewan and Charlie met Ted Simon in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. They told him they were impressed that he'd done it solo more than 25 years earlier, and they rather sheepishly pointed to their GPSs, iPods, and modern fuel-injected bikes. Ted simply replied that they were using the best technology available, the same as he did way back then. There was no mention of cameras, or support vehicles though.

So you can call them pampered if you like, but they actually did the ride. It's kinda like saying the LT is cheating for the Iron Butt Rally because it makes it so easy. Unless you're one of the handful of people who have done it yourself, then you really have no room to talk. ;)

Besides, if they hadn't brought the cameras, we would never have even been aware of this trip. So at least they have managed to share their adventure with thousands of armchair travelers, many of which don't even ride. That's a good thing.

And Charlie managed to parlay it into a Paris-Dakar team ride, which must surely be another truly great adventure. And he's planning on documenting that as well, so we have something else to look forward to. More info on that ride here (http://www.racetodakar.com/).

And if you really find all this fascinating, then read the ADVRider thread (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41699&pp=10) on Striking Viking's (http://www.strikingviking.net/) round the world trip. But be warned it's addicting, and there's 2,570 posts so far. But then again, he has made it around 3/4 of the world, and is currently traversing Africa. So don't click unless you have hours, or even days, to read it all because you won't want to stop reading until you're all caught up. :)

And in case anyone hasn't heard of it, or you haven't seen it yet...make sure you see FASTER, the movie (http://www.fastermovie.com/). Ewan McGregor narrates the film. If you're not already a MotoGP fan, you will be. :)

My wife and I picked up the DVD at Borders on Monday. We watched the whole 7 episodes in two sittings. I had read the book over the summer but the video was great!

Their trip makes the 10 hour ride to the CCR look like a piece of cake... even for the Wife! YES!

I thought the movie was great, eventhough they had the support vehicles. Ewan and Charlie did the ride. Eventhough they support vehicles, when the bikes broke, they repaired themselves, or were able to get the local peple to help them.

KTM did blow it. But, with all the gear they carried, I don't know if the KTM had enough luggage space.

Bought the DVD set on Amazon for approx. $13.00, and watched it in 2 sittings. An amazing journey, and one which I only learned about from this site, and one more reason why you guys are the best.

OK... anybody got a tissue? I'm feeling all veklempt... :D

Great movie if you love the two-legged horses!

Man, what a challenge! It's a testimony for BMW. The KTM could have never withstood the terain and weight that the good ole' GS withstood.
