I received this email yesterday from a fellow rider looking for suggestions for a summer trip. If you have any suggestions, feel free to email him directly.

I am on the net looking for information about riding in Missouri. This coming July my wife and I are going to take a trip on our motorcycle to Missouri, and to tour and explore along the Great River Road. We were thinking of staying in some small towns where the motels may cost less per night then in the tourist areas. I was looking at somewhere around Hannibal or Canton and staying there for a couple nights and to use that as a home base and explore from there and return there each night. My plan is to go down the Missouri side and then going back to Wisconsin up the Illinois side back up to Galena and home and just looking at a five day trip. I even considered taking a tent to save on money and to rough it. Could you give me any information as to where we may stay along the way and the good roads to travel along the river and any places that may be of interest. Maybe you know a good internet site to look at? Thanks, Al Schultz email : alschulz@ez-net.com

You might check out the National Scenic Byways website for the Great River Road.

Looks like an interesting ride for those people coming to CCR from that direction. Wisconsin to Mississippi and then over to Chateau Elan

Here some sites that may help Al and any one else considering the same.

http://www.motorcycleroads.us/

http://www.byways.org/ This web site wil send a nice map FREE and had good info on the Great River Road.

For camping
The following I recomend the army corps camp sites been to the 2 in Illinois very clean sites and bathrooms. In Wisconsin Nelson Dewey is good Wylusing was a beautiful place to stay but the bath rooms were not upto typical Wisconsin standards. But that was few years ago FWIW.

As far as other lodging the cheaper places might not be on the internet. B&B's and chain motels will be on the net. The older road side ones usually are not. better to contact the chamber of commerce in the town (s) and they will provide info also Yellowpages.com might help looking up the town and "motel"

Hope this helps
