View Full Version : RTE - San Antonio, FL

Several have been kicking around the idea of a RTE on another thread and Hans has suggested Pancho's Villa in San Antonio, Florida. Patric is down soaking up some of the Florida winter and has indicated he will be down at least thru Jan/Feb.

Anyone got date they may want to try?

My schedule is very flexible,
I think that Saturday or Sunday would probably work better for most everybody else.
If this grows to more than a dozen people, Pancho's Villa may not be the ideal place, because it is small and very popular on the weekends.

I'll propose a date of next Saturday January 7, how does 12 noon sound?

Sunday 1/8, Sunday 1/15 or Sunday 1/22 would work for me. Unfortunately after the 22nd I no longer have a weekend day off for a while :(

One of the Sundays listed would work for me so that Mike could make it before his schedule changes. I think we're car buying for the daughter next Saturday :(

It would be nice to get the Florida group together but I agree with Hans that Pancho's Villa may not be good if the group gets too big. Of course the little store and deli next door makes a great sandwich so the overflow could go there. As far as date, I would prefer Feb. My Jan weekends are already all filled up.

Sounds like Sundays would be better for some,
that's fine with me as long as it doesn't interfere with Sunday service.

Lets try this:

Sunday January 8 around 2 pm @ Pancho's Villa in San Antonio FL

And then:

Sunday February 12 at that barbeque place in Groveland were we were last year (what's the name of it?)

Whatdoyathink??

Sunday at 2 works for me.

Hans, do you have the phone number to see what they can accomodate around 2 on Sunday afternoon?

Febuary 12th would be better for me. Where is Groveland and is there a link for the BBQ place?

SilverBuffalo

Jack
They don't take reservations at Pancho's Villa its strictly first come first serve.
A small group won't be a problem, if it grows we'll move.
so far its:

And.....

February 12 Sunday
The Place: Choctaw Willy's, Groveland

I am in for San Antonio on 1/8 at 2pm. Lana too.

And two things about Willy's. They are not open on Sundays and the last time I was there about 2 weeks ago, the place was for sale.
I would suggest calling first before setting a date.

I'm in, on both dates :)
Groveland is on 50 at SR-19. Clicky Clicky (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Groveland,+FL&ll=28.559383,-81.853638&spn=0.017152,0.040770&hl=en)
The BBQ Joint is called Choctaw Willy's (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Choctaw+Willy's+Groveland,+FL&ll=28.560431,-81.856387&spn=0.017152,0.027479&iwloc=A&hl=en). This link has contact info.

Actually the property is for sale. I spoke with the manager lady when I was last there. She was waiting on our table.
She explained that while the property was for sale, the folks that were prospective buyers "might" continue to use the building as a restaurant. The name of the current restaurant (Willy's) was not included in the pending sale and therefor Willy's will cease to exist when/if the deal goes down. Their other place in Ocoee (sp?) has already been sold.
Too bad.
She did not indicate a closing date.

While I would like to, I cant make the 2/12 RTE wherever it is. I am only in for the 1/8 gathering.
If you are looking for a 2/12 place, there is a Mex place in Wesley Chapel called Valartas. Its every bit as good as Poncho's, maybe better. It is open on Sundays and is much larger than Poncho's.
Valartas is located in the SW corner of the shopping center that is on the SW corner of the 1st traffic light east of Hwy 54 and I75. It is next to a closed Winn Dixie store.
This place may be an option if the 1/8 crowd gets bigger than what Poncho's can accommodate.

I can't make it on 1/8 but will be available for a gathering on 2/11 or 2/12. Choctaw Willy's, Groveland is certainly a great place for lunch however, if it turns out it's not available, and as someone already said-it's not open on Sunday, we might try the BAYPORT INN in Weeki Wachee. It's a country bar/restaurant that is biker friendly and they have a great grouper lunch served in a basket. It's east of US 19 in in Weeki Wachee at the intersection of CR 597 & 550. Phone is 352 596-1088, GPS coordinates N28 32.701 W82 36.957 or something real close to that. I've never been there on Sunday but I'm guessing their open.

Yup Lynn,
Its open on Sundays butt it is an extremely popular place especially with the Harley crowd. On any given Sunday the have a band set up and it is very crowded.

Pancho's Villa this Sunday, February is still up in the air. Looks like at least 10 so far if everyone is two-up.

Sounds like everything is a go for Sunday January 8 @ 2pm
Pancho's Villa in San Antonio.
A group of 10 or 12 won't be a problem and I am looking forward to meeting old and new friends.

Moving on to February:
The reason for sticking with the Sunday 2/12 date was to accommodate MJac who has since then informed us he can't make it.

It would simplify things if we stuck with:
Choctaw willy's in Groveland
and moved the date back to Saturday the 11th when they're open.
The centralized location of Willy's might get us a few east coast riders
and they can accommodate as many as will come

How does this affect y'all?

Hope the schedule is clear for Sunday, it looks like it's going to be a perfect day for riding with clear blue skies and ideal temps.

Maybe you can scare up a few more "east coasters" to join you on the ride over Sunday.

Doesn't matter if the better half would let me/us go or not, the bike is down with a badly feathered (worn out) front tire. We will try like the dickens to make the ride to Groveland in Feb. New tire on order, will be in Tuesday. Not worth the risk of riding on this one, it is BAD. Charlie, we got to get together, when I cleaned out the trunk I found things that don't belong to me. Ride safe and have fun. Cya soon. Hope the weather holds out for you guys and gals.

Of course its ok,
we'd love to meet your friends and show them some of our down home southern hospitality.
It looks like its going to be a good turn out.
As I have said before Pancho's Villa is a small place and may not be able to accomidate all of us at the same time,
just so y'all know that some of us might be inside eating while others are outside tire kicking.
That shouldn't keep us from having a good time.

We had a nice turnout for the RTE and Great weather :)

It was nice to see some more of the Florida Gang and meet Patrick in person.
The little Mex place where we met for lunch was packed with bikers most of the day.

Fun kicking tires with you all, hope to see you again at the next RTE coming up!

Jan 9th, 2006, 9:18 am
It was a good turn-out, Hans handled the logistics well to ensure everyone got in, had a good meal and made it back out for more kickin', thanks. We ended up making it home a little before 8 as the temps were dipping into the low 50's. I may need to invest in some 'lectric stuff if this hard winter continues much longer. :)

Dave, How did your team do yesterday, all went well with the conversion?

SilverBuffalo
Jan 9th, 2006, 9:26 am
Those courageous enough to brave the Florida winter weather were greeted by a small flock of LT riders on this brutal 70 degree winters day in San Antonio Florida.
It was great to put faces with the names on the luxury touring forum,
judging from the smiles a good time was had by all.
I didn't have the chance to get to know everybody as well as I would like to because of the restaurants seating arrangements,
but the food was good as was the tire kicking/story telling (all true of course)
Even the Harley crowd was impressed with our showing,
especially when they heard some came from as far away as Punta Gorda or Orlando,
they were friendly and curious asking questions about the bikes as well as how many miles are on that one, have you taken any long trips on it etc.
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there were a few future BMW riders among them.
Another LT rider "Larry" happened to show up at the right time and joined us for lunch,
I expect he'll be joining the forum soon.
I guess now is the time to start talking about the next Ride To Eat in Groveland,
look for it in a new thread.
