There's a Holiday Inn Express just across the street from Chateau Elan in Braselton, GA - an easy walk from Chateau Elan. Being of limited means (also, cheep - anything over $29.95 for a room is outrageous!), I checked their web page to see if I could save a bit of $$$ on lodging. They want $116/nite for a room - CCR folks have negotiated a room fee of $119/nite for a one or two bed room @ Chateau Elan. So unless you can negotiate a lower rate with Holiday Inn Express, it don't hardly seem worth the trouble.

I don't mind cheap, sometimes. I stayed in a tent cabin at Colter Bay at CCR last year for $20/night. If it weren't for having to get up and "water" the flowers in the middle of the night the 24 degree temps wouldn't have been too bad!
But, it will be nice and toasty here in the south in late August, so a nice AC room will be NICE!

I was able to get a pretty good rate at the Holiday Inn Express ... not sure I'll 'walk' over to Chateau Elan though :D ...

If you go south to Winder there is a Best Western. Go north to 53 & 985 and there are Comfort Inn, Country Inn, and Admiral Benbrow. Go north on 85 to exit 149 at Commerce and there are Days Inn, Comfort Inn, Red Roof, Super 8, Ho Jo, Ramada, Hampton, and Holiday Inn. Surely one of them has an more moderate room rate. Unfortunately I can't get off from work at that time, that is if I have a job then.

Ah, but the thang is, if you stay elsewhere you miss some of the magic of CCR.
Waking up in the morning and bumping into someone who loves the bike as much as you do.... wandering the grounds in the middle of the night and finding the same. Sitting down almost anywhere and hearing conversations about lights, brakes, seats and Manalo Blanick shoes.
It really is like a big old fambly get together, the discovering of loved relatives you never knew before and the meeting of folks you've grown close to talking on this list.
It is simply amazing. And what I find even more amazing is the venue's we stay at fall in love with us and clamor very hard to get us back.

And the group from cellblock 513 carrying on until 1 or 2am was worth the stay at the event venue.

This issue comes up every year prior to CCR: will you miss out on anything if you don't stay at the host hotel? Several of us (including me) have done it (i.e., stayed elsewhere) in the past, and the almost-unanimous answer is ... YES! You WILL miss out on some of the thrill of CCR.
What intrigued me about the Holiday Inn Express is that you could walk to there from Chateau Elan - thus allowing one (or more) evening drinks before retiring. Shouldn't do that if you have to ride your bike to your bed.
I don't know what room rate that "walilisseu" got - he wouldn't tell us - but the posted rates on Holiday Inn Express' web site weren't that good.

Folks, it's like Grif says here, you will regret it if you don't stay at the lodge! Hell we're not gonna be able to make this one, but if we were I guarantee we'd be staying at the Chateau! It really is one big happy Fambly! And it may be expensive, but it is only once a year! Trust me, it ain't the money keeping us from being there. But you better grab a room while they still have a few left!

What Grif said. You will miss spending all of your waking hours rubbing elbows with the Joe (messy13)!
Now as far as the Admiral Benbow Inn (whatever), the last time I saw a few of them they should have been put to rest in the bottom of the ocean!
Stay at CE! You will not have to worry about the rednecks raising cain on the room next door or above you, you shouldn't have to worry about the safety of your bike and so on and so on!!! BLAH BLAH BLAH

The SO's comment when Chateau Elan came up at CCR last year was "We are staying on-site right?" We live about 45 minutes away. Staying anywhere away from the Chateau Elan or the Holiday Inn Express across the street would be a major FUBAR, IMHO. (Cause you don't know Atlanta area traffice like I do. )

Hey Brett, what's up, it still shows you as registered. I figured if I didn't end up next door I'd be above you. :)

You will not have to worry about the rednecks raising cain on the room next door or above you . . .That's because they'll all be in the Booze Brothers Suite. http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/friday.gif
