Big Ear?

Anyone have the motorcycle earplugs made by Big Ear? I was looking at the motorcycle specific with speakers. Any and all comments are welcome.

I have a set and I really like them. You have to tolerate something sticking into your ear canal. I had a set of Etymotic and I was used to them in the ear so I had zero problems with the fit. I spent 2 weeks on the bike using them and had no problems. They are more sensitive, so they are louder than my Etymotics at the same volume setting. I recommend them if you can justify the cost.

I had some from Green leopard in the UK. They are fantastic. On the RT I would need the bike stereo at volume level 29 or 30 to hear the radio at 100mph. With helmet speakers (Autocom) it was at 15. With the moulded plugs it was 4.

The ones from Green Leopard have the speaker in the cable rather than the plug. Sound is then channeled by a tube to the plug.
I'm about to have another set done as I lost one in my accident. The moulding process is a little uncomfortable but over in a few minutes.

I was never a fan of the foam ear plugs as you either had to force them in and end up "feeling" them or they would fall out. With the moulded plugs after the first couple of days you didn't know they were there.

I have been using Big Ear buds the past two years and find them to be very comfortable on long rides. I did have one speaker go bad and they would not warranty it past one year. They have a choice of speaker quality (and price), I went with the mid range quality, still not cheap but does have excellent sound.

Since I got mine 3 yrs ago I pretty much have stopped using the LT's stereo and listen to my I-pod instead. The sound quality is unmatched and if you are tired of music I keep em in so I get the benefit of really good ear plugs. They were expensive, but worth it to me

My wife and I have used these for about four years. When they work they are great. Our problems have been blocked filters from ear wax. We try to clean the plugs often with the tools provided but not sure it helps. My set has been sent back three times for repair. Each repair takes about three weeks and the last time cost was associated.

Again when they work I love them but right now mine are not working. I had only used them once since the last repair. My wife and I have moved on to another method of getting tunes to the ear.

After all the are not legal in Virginia anyway.

Try the Skull Candy plug before you spend the extra cash. fidelity is great and the ear protection is really good. Just a thought........

Etymotics Er-6i's are just fine. Relatively inexpensive and work really well.
