I have finally gone and done it, switched to the dark side and am picking up a new GSA in around eight hours time. I think I have caught Long Way Down Disease, Ewan and Charlie have a lot to answer for. I have been immenseley happy with the LT for the last four years (except for the clutch episode) and hope I don't regret the change a couple of months down the line. Already have a list of things I want to change, install and alter. I must try and sleep now, its 4.00 am in the morning and I have already been awake for over an hour, too excited to sleep. Regards Thor!

YEP, you've got IT!
You will not be disappointed, but it is a completly different machine from the LT which is why I kept mine and added an RS just to round out the available ride options.
If I could keep only one it would be the GS.
Enjoy and report back.

Help Help I think I am right on the edge of falling in myself.
Just found this site, first post. But I have been eyeing GS models for a while. Where we live my K1100RS suspension is getting a beating. There is over two miles of bad town road to get to my house and on the RS I find that I need to slightly stand on the pegs to minimize bottoming out.
A GS sounds like it would be great on that and many other roads around here.
Now just the $$$ to get one into my garage.......

I had a similar disease but mine was known as, "Long way round disease".
I just sold my LT and bought a 2004 GS. No regrets, as stated they are completely differnt bikes. There are straight roads I wish I had my LT but thats it. The GS is too much fun to want to get anything else. The longer travel suspension greatly increases confidence on rough roads.

I have had two GS's over the years . A 1991 R100GS/PD , & the 1995 R1100GS I have now ... They both have been to Alaska .
I think everybody should have one !!

Yup I am switchin over too. But have yet to see the movie (hard to believe eh?)
I am going to miss the LT. Mine was flawless, dependable and as smooth as puppy poo. It is just time for a change. Now I have to learn/re-learn a whole new set of farkling tricks.
I wish I was like some of you that can stable more than one ride. That said anyone looking for well farkled LT has to look no further than the Classified.

I couldn't agree more. I sold my 99 LT and bought an 08 GSA. I really wish I could have kept the LT even if it just sat in my garage. The thing is a work of art and was a pleasure just to look at.
However, I would have to say that I am really happy with the GSA. With the LT, I would get somewhere and see lots of secondary roads or dirt roads that really needed to be explored but I was not about to ride on the monster.
I think everyone should have an LT, a GSA, a K1200S and a really good divorce lawyer.
