I want to get rid of my fax # and go with an email based fax service. The $3.50 shortfall charge for not making long distance calls is BS.

Any experience here?

TIA

Avoid Efax like the plague, because you will never get rid of them. You can call them and try to cancel, but they will not let you. The only way I got rid of them was to generate a one time use credit card number, change my profile, and then cancelled the number.

On top of that I got bombarded with spam, and almost every single document I ever tried to fax, was too large for them to handle.

EFax is still around? I owned their stock long ago. I might have made some money on it, but it tanked at some point and a lot of people lost out. I even used their service for a while. I think they had a freebie version. I never had any problem with them, but that was a long time ago.

As cheap as fax machines are today, it seemed better just to go spend a $150 or so. You can use a "distinctive ring" to use a single line with the fax machine, but that's an extra charge from the phone company.

My mom lives with me, so the distinctive ring would get answered every time.

I use faxdigits.com. It sends me the fax in PDF format to my e-mail. And that is the free version.
