I'm running the Metzler 880 tires, front and rear. They have about 6k on them and today I experienced something I've never felt before.
Now I know they 'howl' when you are off vertical, but today is was far more pronounced, I could feel it in the handlebars. There was an actual vibration in the bike, all from the tires. Once I was totally vertical, it was gone. Now if I leaned it over further, it also disappeared.
As for the future of these tires, let's just say they will be short lived, due to change over during the colder season, as I can't stand it anymore.
I've heard some say Bridgestone, some say Avon, so give me your real thoughts on what you have experienced.
Thanks

Natural symptom of tire wear. You either have a good flat spot going down the center of your tires, or you have been riding the heck out of them on twisty roads and they are starting to scallop a bit (this is perfectly normal wear).
I keep thinking that having a set of tires that go 15K isn't such a good thing if the last 5-6K the bike handles poorly.

Had that on the Metzelers that came on the LT when I purchased my first one and had the Bridgestone radials do it too. I have had a set of Avons get to that point yet, but I suspect they will depending on how bad they scallop.

Hey John,
I ride hard enough that I get around 6K on the rear and 12K on the front Metz. I also go 48-50 psig on the rear and 44-45 on the front.
What pressure do you run and how often do you check it?
I think if you put some heavy mileage on at a low psi, you'll have more severe cupping/scalloping.
I'm running a Bridgestone on the rear (much cheaper than the Metz now) and having trouble free performance. I've got about 4K on it and I'm sure it'll go as far as the Metz, but, I have been adjusting my riding a little, too many performance awards :(

Thank You for that info, the highlighted section above explained it. It didn't do it going up to Hiawassee, but it did coming back home, and it didn't take that much twisty road riding to do it. But it was also two up most of the time.

Joe:
I'm running 44 lbs in the front and 46 in the rear (48 when two up), and I check it with a gauge at least every month, if not more often. I'm close to you on tire wear, I figure 2k more on the rear and it will need to be replaced, but the front could go another time around.
Thanks
