Video editing software advice

I just purchased a new MotoComm DSR-100 Helmet/Bike camera and digital recorder to help me document my 48 state ride for posterity. The recorder uses SD cards and a 2 GB card will record about 8 hours worth in standard .asf format.

My plan is to take the SD cards I already have and record constantly while on the bike. I'll make a note in my logbook of things that are special that I want to edit out of the 8 hour file into a short vid clip a few minutes long.

Since there will be huge amounts of footage that won't be used, what software do you guys recommend I get to do this editing? I don't need anything on the professional level, just something fairly easy to use and that won't break the bank. Thanks.

I find Cyberlink Power director to be an easy to use program if you don't need all the bells and whistles. Don't get me wrong, it will do a lot with its built in transitions and effects. The latest version is even HD and BluRay compatible.

I use Ulead Video Studio 11.5 Plus. Multi track management. Animated titles. lots of options. Outputs directly to YouTube or can convert to a multitude of file formats.

The reason I started using it was I needed a program that was not too hungry for hardware resources. This fit the bill. I had been using Pinnacle & it crashed all the time.

If you only need to do basic stuff, you might already have editing software included with your platform if you're using XP or OS X.

I suggest Adobe Premiere Elements if you are using a PC. It has been my favorite editor for some time now. I did use Ulead for many years and it has been a very good program too, Adobe just has a little more advanced control for some thing I like doing.
