Trying to register my 2005 K1200LT bought from a third party. The AAA just called and the registration got rejected because they didn't mark down something from the EPA/Emissions Label. Does anyone know where this is located on the bike? It should be around the VIN number but I don't see anything obvious there. The owners manual is not much help and I didn't have any luck searching this forum or Google.

Thanks,

Chipper

Maybe its just that someone forgot to check a box or something on one of the several DMV forms that were completed, I would contact DMV in person...

Let us know what happens.........

Are you saying I'm looking for a fictitious label? Thanks for the response.

Was the machine originally purchased in the USA? If so, the dealer should be able to provide verification data.

I hope this isn't one of those "sweetness of price" deals...

Try looking near, under the RH foot peg, for your VIN. Don't remember seeing a sticker there.

I simply brought the title to mvd. Had to get an AZ anyway.

Bike was purchased (off this forum) from a private party in Michigan who bought it from a dealer there and I shipped it to San Diego. Sounds like I'm dealing with a couple of folks at AAA that don't quite know what their talking about. Thanks. If anyone has any more info, It would be appreciated. I'm going to take the bike down there tomorrow morning and try to sort this out. If they don't find what they're looking for I won't be registered.

Just found this on the following site:

http://www.epa.gov/otaq/imports/factmnc.htm

_______
MOTORCYCLES
1978 and later motorcycles will have an EPA emissions label on the frame.
___________
Any idea where this might be on our LT's?

Thanks,

Dan,
Lift the seat and look at the plate on the right hand side of the top frame rail. You'll find the EPA sticker you're looking for there...."this vehicle meets all federal standards in place at date of manufacture"....

On my 00 it is inside the left saddle bag (if you are sitting on the bike).

To close out this thread. This is where I found my label and it satisfied the Auto Club so my registration is continuing. I never found anything attached to the frame. Thanks to all that replied. Turns out, the Auto Club people said it was the most easily accessible sticker they had ever seen on a motorcycle. I spent forever looking for it somewhere on the frame before I noticed it in the left saddle bag.

why would you need to do any thing with AAA to reg. a bike ?

I don't know if it's nation wide but in Calif you can handle almost all DMV transactions at AAA. It's fast and easy, well worth the membership for that reason alone

Yep, I do almost all my DMV things through AAA. Even on a busy day the lines at AAA are less than 15 minutes usually, but most times only 2-3 people ahead of me. The DMV on the other hand--------------------, UGH! We used to make appointments at the CA DMV, but that has now become untenable. Call up and the next appointment is likely to be Thursday at 2:30, THREE WEEKS LATER!
