Riding with buddy on the first day of a 4 day trip from Lexington, KY down to NC and Northern GA, hitting all the good twisty stuff. Early on, my GS (2005 with 14000 miles)feels like it is hinged in the middle whenever I corner. When I stop to check it out...the rear wheel has 2 inches of play side to side.
Stop in at Wheelers(Rt 129 North of Robbinsville) and the owner takes the wheel of and opens it up and we can see the spline is badly damaged.
Talk to Chicago BMW after limping home and they say that you don't fix that....you buy a whole new final drive. I am 12 months out of warranty. they are going to try to get it covered under 'good will' with their rep but Im worried that might not happen.
Anybody know of a Salvage co that might sell a final drive for a GS?
Thanks,
Ron

Try BeemerBoneyard.com (http://www.beemerboneyard.com/)!
I'd give them a call and tell them what you want / need. They are a good bunch of folks!

I've seen them on eBay from time to time but there isn't one there now.
