Doin' the Tail

Leaving tomorrow with my buddy Tim (on his 1996 K1150RS) and my wife Peggy for North Carolina. One of our goals is that Tail of the Dragon, but we hope to spend a blissful week riding the highways and bi-ways of the Blue Ridge mountians and it's parkway, etc. We'll be in Lexington, KY on Saturday to visit my brother in law, then on to the the Tail of the Dragon and our friend's house in Brevard, our base of operations for the week. Can't wait. Wish me good weather and good roads. I'll try to post photos when I get back. You all be careful out there, be alert, be safe, and "just ride it."

Have been to Deal's Gap and the Dragon many times, and plan to go again this October. Be careful on the Dragon, not because of the road, but the crazies and trucks that may be coming from the opposite direction. There are many other more pleasant roads to ride in that area. Highway 28 from Deals Gap is good, and don't miss the Cherohala Skyway. Also 129 from Deals Gap to Robinsville is nice. No bad roads in that area.

And don't forget Route 28 from Franklin to Fontana. It's nicknamed "The Hellbender."
