HI, Dave. That guy needs to view Skurt's videos on how to pick the bike up. Finally someone who gets more embarrassed than I do dropping the bike. Golly!

Then there are those who care so very much about their bike, they cushion the fall with a valuable body part.

Yeah..I love people that say they have "never" dropped their bike. I tell them they aren't riding it then. Almost did my LT the other day when I went and rode with some friends, but I was practicing my very slow riding and turning. I want to get use to riding it as well as the work bike. That dang hydraulic clutch is tough getting use to..ha. But so far she's a dream in slow riding....was worried about all the hype I had heard. (02 LT and have had her almost 3 weeks now)

I'll never laugh at anyone for dropping one. I had just finished motor school and was riding with my partner for the first week. Came to a major intersection where the road was banked. Misjudged and...dump....i know embarrassed.

Sitting at a rest area on the Blue Ridge Parkway when a group of riders pulled in. Honda ST 1300 didn't make it. There were at least eight of us on a stone wall watching and knew it was inevitable. Front wheel flops and over she goes. We all help the bike and biker get upright. Universal acknowledgment by everyone present, "Been there, done that."

Tough trick the 180 turn from a stop. Palladino's DVD shows the 135 turn from a stop; tough enough. Shoulda included more of the "dip."

Would almost bet the leo grabbed the front brake with the wheel turned at slow speed. Too many of us know what that does.

This reminds me of a story I was told many years ago by a member of the Derbyshire Police motorcycle instructors. On the road, an instructor will have three trainees - all of whom must be Class 1 police-car trained already - with him. One will be under review leading the party then the instructor, followed by the other two trainees.

On this particular day one the leading trainee was a bit short in the leg and couldn't easily get both feet flat on the ground on the RT boxers they were using so he'd already come close to dropping his bike several times during the course. As they were riding through a local town, this trainee saw a young woman with a child in a push-chair (stroller in the US, I think) walking towards the edge of the kerb. Strictly, pedestrians have the right of way at street corners in the UK, though it's unusual for motorists to acknowledge that these days, and this trainee decided to be the perfect gentleman. He correctly gave the slowing down hand signal and beckoned the woman across the road as he drew to a stop. Unfortunately, he stopped alongside a drain in the road that was slightly below the road surface so he put his foot down on fresh air and he and the bike fell over. As the woman crossed the road in front of the bike, she showed her deep sense of gratitude, saying "That was a bloody stupid thing to do!" and went on her way.

Given the trainee held quite a high rank, I wonder how long that took to get round the rest of the force?

Does it count? If you drop your bike because of a failure? The other night after "Long Way Down" went to diner with a group of riders. As I decided to leave, I mounted the bike and pushed it off the center stand and the stand broke, releasing one side and the other pushed me over.

It was freaky and embarrassing, till I figured out what happened!

Some years ago a friend of mine at work (a long-time Harley rider) asked if he could take my LT for a spin around the parking lot. No problem, I replied, and threw him the keys.

On the way to the bike, I warned him that an LT is top-heavier than Pam Anderson and tried to brief him about getting it down off the center stand. He cut me off mid-sentence with something like: "Listen, you young whipper-snapper, I've been riding since you were in diapers."

I shrugged and said "Okay."

Sure enough, we get to the bike, and he rocks it off the stand. Naturally, unaccustomed to managing 800+ pounds of motorcycle (all of it, seemingly, in the tank bag) coming off a center stand, the bike plopped over onto its left side.

I laughed and laughed and laughed. He turned as scarlet as my bike.

Then I showed him how to pick it up. :-)

Yup! Great videos guys. I just dropped mine with about 3K on it on the way out to Gillette. The weather Gods threw a beast of a storm our way. A wall of water hit us head on in the Arizona desert. We tried to do a fast 180 on a rain and hail slicked highway. High winds, heavy downpour, hail and 6 of us on the shoulder. I led the through the turn and as soon as the crosswind hit the wind screen......down I went. A friend on his RT was at my side in a flash! We picked it up, I jumped on it while it was still running and off I went. A slight scuff on the bottom edge of the side case and the usual side guard scrape was all I suffered. Not bad for what could have been a broad side crash if there was a car coming in the near zero visability. Lucky for me!
