After spending $120 on a sheepskin gel pad and $30 on a beadrider I finally gave up. Last night I ordered a Russell Day-Long seat customization.

I think my pad and beads would have worked for normal sized people, but at 285 pounds I need the width and support the Russell should provide. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm 480, and have, over the past 8 yrs. of owning K1200LTs, done Alaska sheepskin, the large AirHawk, and the BeadRider, and I'm going with a custom saddle from John Longo (http://www.johnlongo.net) after speaking with him in person for a while... and getting feedback from the other members of the BMW Bikers of Metropolitan Washington on the club website (http://www.bmwbmw.org).

BTW

After researching all the posts here about LT heated seat removal, I'm going to just snip the wires when I send it off and reconnect when I get it back. Call me lazy I guess, but life's to short to waste all that time stripping plastic and ruin the fun of getting a new seat.

You are welcome to borrow one of my seats while yours is getting rebuilt,or I could mail mine out there and get your old one when it comes back.

You only need to remove one screw and ply that piece just enough to get to the connector. I replaced my seat that way with one of the custom seats, Q.E.D.!

I understood that would get plug disconnected, but what about getting the wire out, and back in later?

That is a very generous offer. I do not want to put you out and waiting will make that first ride even better.

Thanks

I just pulled about 3 screws and got the cable tie and cut them so I could get the seat off. Don't cut it. It will take you 5 minutes more to take it off the right way. Just follow the wire and you will see it goes under the plastic about 4 inches up and then get tied to a bundle or a metal tube. Cut that tie and follow it back down and you will see it may be tied one more spot close to the connector.

Small hands do help with this. Good luck.

I forgot, when you put the seat back in I don't put it back up the same way. Just be careful when you shut the seat and it will be ok.
