I've heard from many BMW riders that they wouldn't go anywhere without their radar detector and that it has saved them from performancer awards on many occasions. I've also seen a number of pics on this web site showing prominently mounted detectors. I recall the Idaho "performance award supervisor" saying at his session at the rally in Spokane that he and his co-workers considered a radar detector an indication that the rider intended to speed and were more likely to write a citation. I'm looking for feedback on the pros and cons of his comments as well as what preferences riders have for detectors. Which ones cover most of the bands used by those who work traffic? Are there any that have hidden sensors fore and aft with some sort of warning light that's inoculous? Any that have innercom connection to the audio system or Ipod hookup? Which ones work best? Thanks.

you might try googling "radar Detectors "

I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. There are many types of clandestine radar/laser jammers/detectors on the market....

Hey Denny,

It's probably true that LEOS will put pen to paper more quickly if you have a radar detector visible.
That said;if you speed and I do, a detector is a great advantage for obvious reasons, if you don't it's a waste of money.
My V-1 has saved me TONS of bucks especially on insurance...thats where the real cost comes in.
Not that I need to explain ,but I love moving on back roads ....but I'm really not very fast-but fun is fun & Mona and I love It!!!!!!!!

Valentine 1 is the best IMHO. It has paid for itself many times over in the 6 years I've been using it.

Denny,
Good to see you're still kickn' up there! Come on down for our rally in September!

You can analyze the question of whether or not to run a detector till the cows come home. Most people who have them will agree that the detector has saved them a bunch of times. Would they have gotten anymore tickets without it is hard to say.

I've run a V1 for about 500,000 miles and an Escort for a lot before the V1. I'm in the "don't leave home without it" camp. I've still gotten tickets while running the V1, (airplanes, instant-on, etc.), but I know I've avoided a whole lot more. I've also never had an officer tell me he was going to give me a ticket just because I had a detector, and I have gotten off with a few warnings.

Good to hear from you and say Hi to Michelle!

As a former(retired)LEO,I have found that most people are going to speed whenever Law Enforcement is not around. That being said,I have caught more speeders with a radar detector than without.Anyway with instant on,I usually have got you before you see me anyway I usually did not write anyone untill they were 25mph over the posted limit,If you write everyone, all you get is cramped fingers..
