Just returned from a trip to Hawaii. In particular, Maui where the #1 activity of tourists is the 54 mile drive to Hana. There's nothing spectacular to see in Hana, but oh the sights you'll see on the way there. :)

I can't remember which forum it was in, but I seem to remember one thread about a highway nicknamed the dragon because of it's twistys. Well, for those of you who are into that sort of thing, you should try the road to Hana on Maui. This road has over twenty one lane bridges, and I think the number I saw was over 600 hairpin turns.

The only motorcycle rentals I saw were for Harleys, so for those wishing to ride it on an LT, you may have to take your own. :( I'm sure that would get really pricey though.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass that along.

I did that road in May '99 in a Jeep. Actually we did the whole circle on the island, going from Kahului to Kahakuloa, to Honolua, to Lahaina, to Kihei, to Kula (the vulcano), to Wailua, to Hana, to Keanae and back to Kahului (total circle was 180 miles and took us almost 10 hours drive on that 4x4 jeep, the only way from Kahului to Lahaina by East side and also from Kula to Hana by South side.
I agree with you 100% on the twists. We start counting after you had miss many of then, and when we hit 1000 twists we stop counting. :)

Deals' Gap (aka 'The Tail of the Dragon') has 318 curves in 11 miles. Quite frankly, it's fun...but after awhile, it can get a bit monotonous. Not to mention nauseating. But I think I have that part licked, finally. I can't imagine riding on the road you're describing.

hopefully you can get down here for a few days of riding sometime, I will show you some more great roads to ride. all rides are long rides down here as you know, so be prepared to spend a few days of riding all day, or maybe being a tent and we can venture out futher and find a camp spot for a overnighter or two
