I bought a 2004 LT late last fall and have been going to take it to the closest dealer for a check up/service call. I was in to see the dealer(125 miles away) on a business trip with the car and asked about getting the bike looked at( it has 30,000 miles on it), and they advised getting a 20,000 km(12,000 mile) service check which entailed 8 hours work and a fee of $560.00. A lot of the little things in this service seems a bit unnecessary. I am wondering what people would recommend that I have them the dealer look at for a bike that I am unfamiliar as to its service history. Previous owner says oil changed recently, valves should be looked at late in the season, but that is all I know, as as he did most of the service work himself so I don't have records. Would it be worth the time and $ to do a "service check", or should I go in with specifics and if so, what?

Thanks for any help.

At least this way you'd be creating a service record and a baseline for future maintenance. $70.00/hour isn't a bad shop rate either.

A 12,000 mile service for $560.00 (Canadian, I assume) is in the ball park with what most dealers would charge. Actually, it seems somewhat less expensive. Since you do not know the service history, I would be well worth your effort to get this done.

Thanks for the input, it makes sense to get it checked out and well worth the sense of security and could spend a whole lot more if it breaks down due to something I could have caught with a check up.
