well, I thought a tinking or clicking related noise was a spark knock. I knew there was an exhaust leak but ignored it. Changed the exhaust header seals and "NO More Noises" :) Not to bad of a job. I recommend new studs and nuts.

Great Dale,
Glad to hear you got her fixed. I remember the post and thanks for sharing the solution. That is what makes this site so great.

its really strange how the leaking header seal can sound so much like a knock. It is consistent with engine load or throttle position, just like a spark knock. I found one stud missing, "then I found myself," just kidding. "I'm only a stud in my own mind :) Seriously, one stud was missing and several were loose. Probably contributed on the leaking seal. 31k miles on the bike.
I rode today with a shorty helmet, and nothing but that nice engine whine was present.
