Hey guys,
Lance and riding pal needs to replace his clutch due to slipping. Wondering if we could get a tech session going int the north or south Northwest to get repaired. Sure would be a great learning experience.Lance is sure disappointed about this, since the bike has been so great. It's now got 31k miles.
My bike on the other hand wasn't so great. My clutch failed at 19k and 36k,luckily between the warranty and extended warranty most of the cost were covered both times.
Hoping i could get Ken interested in helping maybe, since I know he's back in the Portland area.:D Are you listing Ken?

Thats a bummer. Never done one of those. Sounds like a big job. I am sure somebody around here knows how to. Was it caused by a Slave cylinder leak?

Hi Clayton. :)
The short answer is, when my LT needed a clutch at 85K I paid someone to do it. At the time, I had way more work (and thus money) than I had free time.
I'm sure we could do a clutch, but it would probably take 2 or 3 full days work, plus time in between to get all the parts. So we'd need a shop or garage for probably a week. (Hi, Ernie. :))
While you're in there, plan on replacing the slave cylinder, rear main engine seal, tranny input seal, and possibly the tranny output seal as well as the clutch parts. And drilling the slave weep hole and clutch weep hole, of course.
You can save a lot of labor by doing it yourself, but there is a significant time commitment as well.
Might be quite the fun challenge, though. :)

Hey Ken,:)
I would love to get mine and Lance's hand dirty by doing and learning. However I would need some guidance from a journeyman like yourself :) As for the space not a problem here at home, but I don't have a hoist. If somehow we could get this done ,just think there wouldn't be much of the bike we could't work on, Thanks for you input I value your opinion

:)
I was thinking the same as you Ken. The timing isn't right for me right now with the new shop project. I'd love to host this for sure, but I'm going to have to pass this time. :(

In process of rebuilding my clutch @ 80k. I see that a&s cycles parts are much cheaper than local dealer. Do they deliver quickly? Anyone have experience with them? Thanks, MG.

One of the premier dealerships in the States, Mike. Couple of their employees are active on these forum pages, so they know customer service. I imagine if you want parts in a hurry, you prolly will have to pay a leetle extry for delivery. Standard practice in retail. Good luck with your project - that's not for the faint of heart!!! ;)

Ditto what Dick says. Both with A&S and the clutch R&R is a lot of work. I want to try it myself when I get to that point. I think next winter it might need to be done.
