ME880 Tire Question

Just sitting at work wondering if these tires have wear bars in them, or if you have to measure tread, and if so what is the min depth. Anyone have a quick answer?

I've always measured... 2/32 of an inch ( a little less than 2mm ) is minimum to pass state safety inspection, in states where I've owned motorcycles ( NY & VA )

I asked this same question earlier this year. Yep, they do have wear bars, just not as noticeable as car tires. Look on the sidewall of the tire for little arrows. They point to where the wear bars are located. If I recall, they are only on one side of the tire, and I forget which side.

My new ones have TWI stamped three places on each side close to the tread, Then there is a little knob in the groove of the tire. TWI, I believe stand for tread wear indicator.

Look for TWI on both sides of the tire.
Go by the depth in the center of the tire, not at the edges.

The placement of the TWI should be on the side wall.
Where it is located gets scrubbed off quickly by aggressive riders.

Michelin puts Bibendum on the tire to mark their TWI.
My goal is always to see how quickly I can scrub him off the tires.

I reviewed the chart from the Metzler company posted by someone here a few weeks ago, when someone else asked what the tire tread should be. The depths listed for the tread on my tires from that posting, did not match what I had, with new tires. Don't have time to get the #'s just now, but I have 4mmF/5mmR, with 3.5k on the tires on our M880 Marathons for the 99LT, purchased last Nov.

I am pretty sure new they were 5F/6R.

I know the rear tire, same one I have, was rated for 8-9mm new, and there is no way my tire had that much tread.

I called the dealer trying to solve the mystery, no one returned my call.
