I was checking the AMA race schedule for 2006 and the Road Atlanta races are scheduled for September 1 - 3. That bumps right up against the end of CCR. Could make for an interesting extended trip for some folks.

I thought I remembered reading about this (http://www.bmwlt.net/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=ccr&Number=301674&Search=true&Forum=All_Forums&Words=ama%20atlanta&Match=And&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=301674) on the old site. I just wonder how we're going to get a track day with possible practice for the races that weekend?

Track Day....We Don't Need No Stinkin Track DAY! Well, it's up th the management to figure out the coordination for a track day. I really think a track day on the LT is a waste. I think a track day on a new 1200 in line is terrific. SO, lets get BMW to put one up for a test ride! :D

I'll be happy to watch the racing thank you very much....

You and I might not need a track day, but I can think of two that can and probably need it. Joe, Ken??

I've lived within 30 miles of the Road Atlanta for years and I haven't made any of the motorsports races out there. :o With the way my work goes, 9 hours Monday through Friday, and callout standby all the rest of time except scheduled vacation, I'm just not spent the money. But this year, it's vacation going into CCR so I can block out the weekend too. :) See ya at the races. I wonder if they'll give us a LT only parking area???

I guess all minds don't think alike. As I recall that Don Arthur spent all day at the Barber track a couple of years ago when the RA was in town. Most of us are not born with riding skills.

Need isn't the question, Steve. How about want? Or just enjoy?

I had a blast at a recent BMW-only track day (see avatar). I was the only LT there, but far from the slowest rider. Far from the fastest too, for that matter. It showed me the LT's strengths (comfort with exceptional handling) and weaknesses (far too heavy, relatively low lean angle, limited acceleration), and confirmed why I ride this big beast. For the track, it's far from perfect. For 90% of what I ride, it fits very well.

But whatever you ride, learning to ride it better is always a good thing.

I've heard you and Joe bantering back and forth over the last year or so, so that is the need I was talking about. :p I'd like to just sit by the track and watch you two chase each other. :)

But whatever you ride, learning to ride it better is always a good thing. No arguments from me!!

Have a Happy New Year!!!

I challenge anyone to take their LT out onto Road Atlanta. I don't know who would be fastest, and I don't really care, but I bet I'll be having the most fun. :D

I don't know Bud. Since I've never been on a race track on/in anything, I might be having just a leetle bit more than you. But I don't think I'll be tryin' to stick to your rear fender.

Don't think of it as a race track. Think of it as a one way road with no cops, driveways, oncoming traffic, animals, trucks, or cell-phone impaired SUV's. You can just ride at your own pace, and trust the road to be free of most hazards. You still have to pay attention, of course, but most of the normal street problems just aren't there. That leaves you to explore your limits and the bike's limits, without the myriad of distractions that we all face every day.

You're never gonna set a lap record on an LT, but you just might learn a few things, and surprise yourself in the process.

Now if they come out with the '07 LT with 50% more horsepower and 100-150 pounds less weight before September, then all bets are off. :D

We're working on the LT parking and/or hospitality area, Steve. It's still maybe yes/maybe no, but it's not final, either way.

BTW, I'll be at the track, too.

Track Day....We Don't Need No Stinkin Track DAY!SPEAK FOR YOURSELF, you POSER! http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/violent/nutkick.gif

I have been licking my chops at the idea of bringing my ZX-11 down to Road Atlanta. So much for that idea! Now I'll just have to show up uninvited to CCR and make fun of all the over-bloated land yachts in the parking lot! :D
