Just returned from a 2500 mile trip from Sacramento to Zion and finally wore our the tires. My tire alert requires metal valve stems that Kisin has offered to supply, but I have not been able to find out if the LT uses 8mm or 10mm. Can anyone help. Les/Folsom CA

The forum members should do a bulk buy.

Those stems are like .40 each.
The packaging must be worth 4.00.

If you lived closer, I would hook you up.
I put steal stems on every tire that I change.

It is just peace of mind knowing that my friends will be safe.

Note: to N. GA, East TN, WNC... I have a changer.

I charge 10.00 to mount and computer balance a tire with a steel stem. <= Get a shop to do that.

You bring the tire, I will mount it.
Please note that I have a needle dick... So once I mount your tire it will have a bunch of tiny pin holes. :rotf:

Steel or Steal... I see worse on this forum.

Why would one use a plastic versus a metal valve stem?

Thanks,

The rubber valve stems are considerably lighter.

With a steel valve stem the weight on the wheel almost always will double.
When I say double this is using a Snap-On computer balancer.
I would image that someone doing a static balance may not see a drastic difference.

With a rubber valve stem the core is always a key point of failure.
Rubber stems should ALWAYS be replaced with every tire change.

When a rider bends the rubber stem to add air or check the preasure, it stressed the inner core. Eventually the brass inner core separates from the rubber.

I would just like to point out that the original question as to size has not yet been answered.

Steve R, your site no longer works

My tire alert system arrived, but MAX did not have the correct metal stem to install on the rim.

where can I get what I need

I think it is a .453 hole which translates to 11.5mm

Are they available at most auto parts stores?

Yes, you want a 1.25" long metal valve stem. Camel is the brand here.

touched base with Kisan and they are sending me a set of 10 mm short valve stems. They indicated that they should stick out about 3/4 in.

So I went to MAX's in Troy for some warranty work, and the Owner (or his Son) was sitting in the parts chair behind the counter when I ask the Service person were they able to locate the 10 mm valve stem I would need to install the tire pressure monitoring system.

Owner say, BMW does not make a steel valve stem for their bikes and I will not authorize my shop to install any on bikes in my shop or non BMW parts.
Liability and all, "i'm sure you understand". I pointed to the Olin and Wilbur displays and PIAA light, and Remus muffler displays as well as the Kisan Hyperlites and asked does BMW recommend these? He allowed as he was used to these.

Could not get him to change, so now need to install them my self.

Not the outcome I was hoping for

I just had a set of tires put on my bike at the dealer last week. I asked for steel stems and they told me relatively the same thing they only use rubber.
