New K1200LT owner....

Will be taking ownership of a new (for me) 2002 LT. The bike has one owner and is low mileage with 8000km. Dealer serviced to date other than an oil change by the owner. Silver colour ,excluding GPS and Intercom.

I would have preferred a 2005 or newer, but the price is right.

This is now one of 3 bikes in the garage (Ducati 996, Suzuki SV650 wife's).
We intend to do mostly highway miles and very little city. Alot of nice weekend driving to the cottage/boat (especially with gas prices where they are).

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions from other 2002 LT owners and others of course;-)

This is a great site/forum. I am a member of Ducati and Porsche forums, and this definitely tops those for the amount of information.

I've got an 02, bought it the last day of Oct 02, all but 1400 miles put on the bike since spring of 03. You got a nice low mileage bike from the sounds of it.

I would check the shift linkage immediately just for grins, mine broke at 9-10k miles.

Just some observations along with the comment that I seem to have bad luck when it comes to a trouble-free bike (and I buy them brand new for the most part), so take this stuff with a grain of salt.

My rear drive went at 17k miles, but i think it was going south much earlier than that due to the weird vibrations I was getting, I don't think it was right from day one, I just didn't know any better at the time.

Its a good year of bike really, aside from some of the inital problems. Mostly just keep up with normal maintenance and you'll beegood. I have 110k on it now.

As much as I ride and go thru all kinds of weather, a simple wash over the wkend and people ask me if the bike is new:)

Oh yeah...it starts running real good at about 40k miles.

Welcome. I have a 2002 that's just getting broken in with 91000 miles. Other than being on my third radio, and some battle damage from a suicidal deer, I haven't had any significant problems.

Hope you and your spouse will consider making the trek to CCR this August.
