Hi guys.
I am used to km/h and liters. Can anyone help me change the BC on my K1200LT 2000 to represent these values?
On page 29 in the Riders manual it sais that "The display can be altered to suite national preferences to km/h or mph" and ". . . (liters/km, liters/mile or miles per gallon)" I can not find any instructions.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Bjorn! I am not trying to steal this thread, but I was wondering if you purchased your BMW abroad and had it shipped home or is there now a BMW motorcycle dealership in Iceland. I was thinking of shipping my GSA to Iceland from Canada and then spend a couple of weeks exploring your beautiful country. It would be nice if there was a dealership so if I had any problems there would be someone fairly close that I could take it to get it repaired. ron

I can answer that one. Bjorn bought that bike from me and he had it shipped from California to Iceland. I had a crate built and he arranged the shipped. Wasn't cheap...

and to follow up on Ted - it was no problem doing business with him and Capitol Crating that crated the beauty.
My wife is SOOO satisfied as a decoration behind me :), espacially with the heated seat, even though it makes the decoration a dried one ;)

Unfortunetly we do not have an active dealer in Iceland. The BMW dealer does though order spareparts for us and they are rather quick about it.

We do though have a BMW Motorcycle Club Iceland http://bmwhjol.is/ and some members there ar good at service and one has an analizing computer.

Anyone wisiting Iceland is welcome to contact me and I'll assist in any way possible.

Hi,
Bought a 2004 LT in Chicago and would also like to change the national preferences to km and km/h and °C - I have figured a few things out :
If your press the Reset and Mode buttons simultaneously for about 3 seconds, the number 01 is displayed on the screen. If you now press the BC button on the Right handlebar, you can switch between 01 , 02, 03 and 04.. When on screen 01 and you press the Reset button , the LCD displays 24H, but somehow I dont now how to change this setting. By pressing the Reset button again, some gibberish appears on the LCD display, but one can make out km/h and ° C etc., yet again I can not switch or alter it. On screen 04 the abbreviation LPS appears. I yet have to find a way of permanetly changing the setting. Will keep you posted if I figured it out!
Wish me luck.

While we are at it. I have been wondering if the MPG is a US gallon or UK gallon?

I expect Alex is on to something here but like him, not sure what. Does anyone on the boards know a factory trained tech (perhasp some of the guys from Germany) .... they very likely have access to the correct sequence to turn the giberish Alex refers to into kph, etc.
Would love to have the answer too. Please keep me posted.

Just a thought here, every car radio I've ever owned, when tuning it in for the first time, you select say 1, then tune into the station you want, then press and hold the 1 button and the radio bleeps, then for 2, 3 etc....

Maybe this is what is required, press and hold the BC button when you get to the option you want. I don't have the balls to try it on mine as I just know it will be FUBAR if I do it.

Hi everyone,

I have since my last post tried different things, and learned a little if anything:

After pressing Reset and Mode simultaneously for 3 sec, Screen 01 appear: You can page through screens 01 - 04 by using the BC button on your R handlebar.
Sc 01: (Press Reset once) Switches between 12H and 24H digital clock display - I dont know how to change it.
(Press Reset again) - S0me gibberish on display , but probably this is the Sc where one changes the Metric to US;
Sc 02: (Press Reset once) - same gibberish as Sc 01 second part)
Sc 03 : (Press Reset once) - I do not know what this is - looks very much like a car radio scanning through stations - it starts at 750 and increments by 10 each second up to 1250, then starts at 750 again- and will continue until BC button is pressed.
Sc 04: (Press Reset once) - Screen display LPS ;

If you are on any screen - pressing the BC button will get you into the normal computer mode.

I know this is not helping much, but maybe someone can get a brainwave on the button sequences--- Help please !!

Regarding Sc 3 - it is about the MPG calculation which is explained here http://www.bmwlt.net/ubbthreads/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=K1200LT&Number=60699&page=8&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0

Hi Bjørn

Pål here :)

I want to know that aswell.

In some earlier tread someone spoke about an instrument that you could buy from hungary that changed the instrument settings and computer settings when attached to some place on the speedometer....while it also calibrated the speedometer to show actual miles/km and not the normal 10% of.

I cant find that tread anymore.

While we are at it. I have been wondering if the MPG is a US gallon or UK gallon?
I cross-checked mine for a year or so (sad git, I know!) and it is set to Imperial gallons. It's two or three mpg optimistic but that's close enough for anything I need for day-to-day use.

The triggers given in this thread are all for the Mark 1 machines. My Mark 2 BC doesn't work the same way. The button on the RH bar operates the centre-stand. Pressing the LH rocker-switch down quickly changes the display mode and holding it down for about three seconds resets the value being displayed. Anyone know the triggers for the Mark 2 series, just out of curiosity?

If you research the archive threads from pre-2005 you will find a thread on this topic. IIRC the conclusion for pre-2005 is that you cannot change the measurement units from metric to imperial, etc. The only solution is a swap with someone who wants to have imperial units but currently has metric or ordering the BMW part.

On the screen 03 calibration issue the FAQ pre-2005 have this entry. I had it in my own files when I owned an LT without the indicated source so my apologies to the originator:

"Yes. The procedure is as follows (thanks to Paul Ford):
To adjust the MPG readout on the BC, do the following:

1) Divide the displayed MPG value by the actual MPG value, than multiply by 1000. For example, 48 MPG divided by 55 MPG = 0.872 x 1000 = 872. Remember this number. (Editor's note: You might want to run a few tanks through resetting the BC only on the first tank but measuring actual MPG by hand for each tank to get a good average.)

2) Press the reset and mode buttons on the BC simultaneously, then release. (Editor's note: do this with the ignition ON.) The BC will display '01'.

3) Use the BC button on the right hand control switch to scroll through the four test screens. Stop when '03' is displayed and then press the reset button. WARNING: Watch the screen carefully at this point! As soon as you press 'reset', look for the very first number displayed. This is the current MPG calibration factor but it's only displayed for a second before the number starts to count up. The OEM setting is usually 1000 (no calibration) but it might not be and you may wish to return to the original number if you're not happy with the results of this exercise. The number will begin to scroll, starting with the current setting, up to 1250. It will then begin again at 750 and continue up. When this number reaches the number closest to the number that you remembered from step 1), press the reset button again. That will reset the calibration factor for your display.

The other three test screens will not do anything"

I especially recommend that those of you who are new to the LT and have an older 1999 to 2004 model research the archives. There were a lot of technically savvy guys (the early adopters) who looked into every nook and cranny of the LT. In particular postings by mnblett and dshealey could virtually form a service manual for your LT.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Yiet,

You have spared me (and others) many fruitless hours (and numb fingertips) trying to change something that cannot be done. Thanks for the helpful info on Sc 03 ! :rotf:

It is not common knowledge, but we have a lot of deserts. Our sand is black and it can be quite chilli there, even in summer time.

BjossiBolla and Flatop are almost neightbours :p

What do you say Flatop, should we have an expeditin to Iceland some time? Visit our herritage and bring some hard cash into Iceland.

I am sure BB would invite us to eat Rotten Shark and drink Svartadaui after a day at the healt pools. And maybe eat home grown bananas as dessert!

Seriously I am going to Iceland some day. :bmw:

Oh and how the rotten shark smells so very bad. While in the military I had to load our helicopters on the boats to be shipped back home, and 6 times I had to walk from the hanger to the port. Several miles of nothing but rotting shark. Not exactly my idea of a great food.

Although i have to admith the 1200 Adventure looks REALLY nice even if its only standing there still...

@ secretaryrick

Hmm remember to get some pontons to use for that nasty sea-crossing.

They say the coast of Canada is a bit rough on the winter seasons....
