How does this look for a ride out of Mt. Horab this Sunday? I hear there's a brewery in Mineral Point. Just to pick something up for home. :D

I'm in El Paso, but have family up there. Sounds like a good route but you might want to check for closed roads: http://www.dot.wisconsin.gov/travel/incident-alerts.htm

Thanks for the great link. I checked and if we wanted to get closer to the Wisc river, at the northern apex of the route, we won't be able to get through. I'll check again before we head out on Sunday.

I crossed the Wisconsin River at Lone Rock on Saturday. High water and signs of some flooding, but crossed the bridge with no trouble.

Jerry,
I went through New Glarus to Hollandale and Dodgeville then on to Prairie Du Chein on the 13th. No roads under water but there was some gravel and mud in low areas. Real problem area is North of Madison by the Dells. Water up to I90 by Cascade Mountain.

Sunday, what time and place?
If you take 11 to Monroe, get off on 81 and we can either meet you on the side of the road at that exit or turn left (south) and go to the Subway. My MapQuest shows a Subway on 69 (which turns into 81 north of 11), so I hope it's still there.
I'd like to meet Ron in Elgin at 09:00 , so it looks like it will take 2:15 to get to Monroe. That puts us there at 11:15.
How does that sound?

Upon reading Jon's (jonny65) message about drilling a weep hole, I may have jumped the gun about it being ON the 29th. Have not heard from him so we may have to bypass Mt. Horab and go straight to Governor Dodge State Park area.

Jerry,
Some of the roads in Beloit have been closed do to high water. I called a friend in Beloit this morning and found out that one of the bridges in Beloit is still closed. This might cause a slight detour.

Coming From Chicago, Elgin area you can Hwy 20 to Freeport and Hwy 26 north to Monroe. It turns into hwy 69 in Wisconsin and would by-pass Beloit.

NOTE: There is a few miles of construction on hwy 20 around Rockford so be careful if you choose this route.

Jerry,
double check to make sure that 81 through Beloit is open. Some of the roads in Beloit have been closed do to high water. I will call a friend in Beloit later this morning and get an update on the roads in that area.

Hi Roy,

My plan is to ride 20 to 26, north to Monroe as you've mentioned.
Thanks for the heads up. Wish you could join us. We'll be passing right by your place.
Leave Elgin @ 09:00, hit Monroe @ 11:15...
Depending on if there's a tech session or not will determine how we leave Monroe to get to Governor Dodge State Park area. MapQuest has provided me with a few route options.

Jerry,
not sure how my Sunday is going to shape up. This is the first Sunday in 5 weeks that hasn't been filled. Yup when you go by on hwy 20 you will be about 1 1/4 miles from my house.

Depending on how things go on Saturday I may just need a ride on Sunday.

If you see a blue LT it might be me.

Why don't we just meet somewhere IN Monroe?

We are meeting you in Monroe (either on the side of the road when you get off 11 onto 81 or Subway on 69, just south of 11, in Monroe. Your choice.
It looks like 11 and 81 are the same going into Monroe and then they split off. Where they split off is where I was thinking of meeting you. Maybe we should try to find the Subway on 69, in Monroe (just south of 11/81). Unless you know of a better spot?
I'm meeting Ron in Elgin since it's on the way.

9am Sun. is good for me...I have been to Gov. Dodge State Park several times when my kids were younger...we would do some camping there....down the road a few miles is House on the Rock...a few more miles are some Frank Loyd Wright houses.

On further MapQuest inspection, it looks like the Monroe Subway is on 8th St., West of 69 (South of 11/81). Next to Mc-y-Dees and a Dairy Queen.

Here's a MapQuest close-up of the Subway location (under 11-BR). Expand the map out to view the entire route. Absolutely, not set in stone.

Sounds great. Here's a link to my MapQuest route. There's an alternate path if we weren't going to go through Mt. Horab. Let me know if those are good roads to ride to get to the Gov. Dodge State Park area. It'll be nice to have someone familiar with the backroads along.

What a great day! Really long ride for me (410mi; 11.5 hrs), but when we all met in Monroe, WI, an RTE seemed to be a very agreeable suggestion. Burgers and cheese seemed to be the highlight at Baumgartners.
From there we rode for over 2.5 hrs & 100 miles over these tracks:

And ended up here:

Thanks guys (Jack, Ron and Jon) for gathering today and being so accommodating with special thanks to Jon for the tour. Awesome area you live and ride in.

I can't wait to return,

Jer, Ron and Jon... it was a pleasure meeting you all. Great ride. Next time any of you have an itch to ride up this way let me know. We just scratched the surface next time we'll go a little farther north and west (an area that I know a little better - but is probably under water right now).

BTW, I was telling you guys about riding up to the Mindoro Cut and as luck would have it I found this.

Mindoro Cut Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcfynINaXIo)

Fun ride with lots of fun roads in the area. Let me know when you want to go and I'll be happy to lead. BTW, the invite is extended to anyone that wants to tag along.

Pick a weekend and let's go.
I'm starting to make plans to stay in Mineral Point the weekend of 1-3 Aug. There's a Moto Guzzi rally nearby that I'll be riding up to with some friends on Friday and then home on Sunday. I could see myself breaking away on Saturday for a run through the "cut".

I think the Minnesota rally was cancelled this year. Guess they didn't want a repeat of last year's disaster. I saw some really disturbing pix of bikes in water up to their handlebars.
Jack: Will you be posting a new thread on the "Cut" run? Just wondering.

The local BMW Club has an annual rally at Money Creek. They had it this year... it rained... no flash flood.

I'll post a new thread on the subject.
