Starfighter is right about hwy 2. Great ride and away from the super slab. How long do you have for the trip out? How long are you staying and how long to go home? If we know your time frame we can better help you. Also how many hours a day do you plan on ridig and whats your riding style like?

i have no time table for the trip , the lumber business in kind of asleep so i have lots of time. what ever it takes for the most part. plan on riding about eight to ten hours a day but even that is not cast in stone. i have some friends and family in the seattle /tacoma area. i was thinking on a northern rt one way and southern the other. any suggestions are more than welcome. i am looking forward to talking with folks from all over the country.

Here's how I'd start the trip...
Ever ride 44/55 from Highland to Kerhonkson? I often did when I lived in the area (Orange/Ulster border). I preferred crossing the Kingston-Rhinecliff bridge (avoiding Poughkeepsie), down 9W to 44/55 west. Better IMO than 299 through New Paltz. From Kerhonkson, 209 south to either 55 or 52. West on to Liberty, where you pick up 17 (future I86). West on 17 towards Binghamton. I'd be sure to stop at the Roscoe Diner in Roscoe, NY. Good food, good desserts.
Gee....wish I could ride that piece with you. Nice mix of hills/flat, Numerous places to catch some great scenic views. Only a 3-4 hour segment, but I enjoyed it.

Hey Sawyer,
Market of Eastern White Pine kind of "soft"? ;) Glad you can take some time off. Part time faller, woodmizer sawyer here. Little bits of pine, hemlock, maple, oak, cherry.
I am interested to hear what you eventually do for a route. We will be heading out of southern Vermont in mid August, planning on going north around the Great Lakes and then picking up rte 2 in Minnesota. We'll eventually turn south in Montana headed for Utah.
Interested to know what you find along the way on rte 2; hope you'll post back here a little about your ride.
Thanks, and have a great ride.
