Am posting here and in the Rock Mtn forum.
Anybody up for a ride in this spectacular weather over the Holidays?
I am not missing the Portland rain at all!
Jeff "Mitch Rider"
Anyone from the forum on a black LT on the 303 loop this Christmas morning?

Hi Jeff, So you're from Portland Oregon huh?? Used to live there. Now I just visit.
A ride here in the valley sounds good. Are you very familiar with Scottsdale, etc??

-Hello Stu-
I was over answering Mitch on the RM forum (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?p=25276#post25276). We're now trying (again) for Prescott Wednesday if your're interested.

I am down in Phoenix for the holidays too. It was raining when I left San Francisco and I, too, am very pleased with this beautiful weather. I am up for a ride to wherever whenever. I am staying in Cave Creek for two weeks and was hoping someone on the list might suggest a nice ride or two.
TIA

Stew,
I am definitely familiar with Scottsdale as that is where we always stayed when we would come down to visit in the past. I have also already become familiar with David and Josh's fine BMW store in Scottsdale, most recently participating in their track day at Firebird Raceway on the 11th, an absolute hoot! Prescott on Wednesday work for you?

Daniel,
Cave Creek is a fun place, BMW riders usuallly get together there at the Java Hut on weekend mornings. You're also an easy shot to the route to Prescott. How does Wednesday work for you?

When are you planning to leave. Also, although it's pretty nice down here, Prescott can get pretty cold. Honestly, I think I'll stay in the valley. If you should decide to stay where it's warmer, then I would entertain some valley destinations for lunch, but not too long a day ride. :)

Harry,
What route are you thinking for the "to Prescott" portion?....up 60 thru Wickenburg/Yarnell? or up 17 to 69? We can pick a starting rendezvous point once we decide.

Stew,
It looks like the Prescott ride will be in the 50 degree range. Perhaps a lunch ride in the valley on a different day? What works for you?

Yeah since I'm on the west side I almost always take this route:

I really try'n avoid I 17 at all costs. I'll be caging it down that in just a few hours from here in Flagstaff. Didn't you say you were in Surprise? Lottsa places we could meet. What are you close to? Major intersections?

Dec 26th, 2005, 10:43 am
Harry,
I agree with the stay off 17. Why don't we meet at the intersection of Lake Pleasant Rd and Carefree Hiway and then it will be convenient/easy for Daniel to hook up with us as well...then we can head over on Carefree Hiway to 60.
Also, what do you figure is the total round trip time? and what is your suggestion on a departure time?

I think a Lunch ride on Thursday perhaps would be good. There are several places to go (no shortage of restaurants in our area). I'll think of someplace and post here when I can think of something fun. I thougnt maybe Hooters in DT Tempe. That's fun sitting up stairs and watching everyone down below. Have you ever been to "Bob's Used Motorcycle" bone yard? That's an amazing place full of old bikes and stuff. OR, whatever....

Jeff, the desired location would be a bit of backtrack for me so I'll meet you guys in Wickenburg at the Texaco Star Mart on the right side (http://mail.bmwlt.net/%7Ebeemerider/meet1.jpg) of the road.

Depends on stops, lunch(?) and other things. I can usually do the entire route I mapped in about three hours.

So coming from Carefree we will meet at the junction of 17 and Carefree Hiway? Or is it further on for me? What time should we get there in order to make the 10:00 meet?

Thursday/Hooters for lunch works fine for me as long we don't get caught in commuter traffic.

Daniel,
Just come about 6 miles further west on the Carefree Hiway to its intersection with Lake Pleasant Rd. I will wait for you there on the side of the road (Champagne LT). Let's meet there at 9:15. That should give us plenty of time for the 30 plus miles to Wickenburg, especially as the traffic moves at 80mph.
Remember to dress warmly as it will be chilly at that time of the morning and then chilly again as we rise in elevation to the Prescott area.

OK. I think I know where you are talking about. Isn't there a glider airport or something near there? I'm sure I will find you as there is only one road going towards 60.
I am riding a Champagne colored LT too. I will be two up so I shouldn't be too hard to spot. I will see you 9:15.

Was damn fine meeting and greeting everyone.
Don't forget we'll try this Payson-Strawberry run (http://mail.bmwlt.net/%7Ebeemerider/payson1.jpg) Tuesday. And if we are able to shorten the 2.5 hour lunch (;)) we may be able to include Morman Lake and Sedona (http://mail.bmwlt.net/%7Ebeemerider/sedona1.jpg).

Forgot to pass along that Gerry and Amy are unavailable due to work and out of town company coming in.
Harry/Dan we'll look for a ride report to "wet our whistle" for the next one.
I snuck out for a quick little 200 miler this afternoon...up to Wickenberg for a great burger at my favorite stop, "Screamers" and then out 60 to Aguila, then south on Eagle Eye Rd to hook back up to the 10. Jumped off the 10 at exit 109 (Sun Valley Parkway) and looped back up to Bell Rd where it joins the 303 and then home. The 60, Eagle Eye and Sun Valley Parkway were fun "roads thru the desert" with virtually no traffic...maybe saw three cars on each road the whole way . Had a coyote cross about 50' in front of me on Eagle Eye.
A great quick little loop and perfect temps in the 70's the whole way. Can't beat these Arizona winters for riding!

Harry,
"Screamers" is on 60 at the west end of Wickenburg not to far before the road goes into two lanes from four.
I see Vulture Mine Rd on the map. Is it as interesting as the name sounds? Paved all the way I assume?
Maybe great for a short quick last minute decision ride. Not to far from me or you.

I guess that makes it unanimous. No one is riding on Tuesday. Well, at least not the planned ride.
I am back in California. I had to come home for work. I was really hoping to be able to stay until Saturday - but, you know.
Thanks for everything folks. I had fun and hope to see you all next time I am down there in March.
And now back to my normal cold, rainy California weather....
