Padres Run and Bike Blessing

Where: Church of the Holy Family Rte 85 Hebron, CT
Time: 10AM Memorial Mass then Bike Blessing and Ride
Then go for a ride and then retunr to church for Dinner.
Cost: $20 for Ride and Dinner, $10 for just dinner or $5 for Kids.
Ride Benefits: US Soldirers, A memorial funs for Peter Skoog and a Hebron Family that lost everything due to a fire.

More info on Padres Run. Registration starts at 930AM. 10 PM Memorial Mass for Motorcyclists. Led by Father Mike. Blessing of the Bikes at 11AM, Police escoted ride starts at 1130AM. Ride is a 60 miles loop back to the church where food will be served. Also a live band. RAin or Shine. Hope to see some BMWs there. Amy and I will be there.

I just finiished the Dragon, I tried to upload to Yputube but it was too big. I am attempting to upload to my site but had some tech difficulties. I hope to have it up today.

Well, We survived Padres Run. Nice turn out. I think we had about 150 bikes. The ride was escorted by the CT State Police Motor Unit. They did an excellent job at the intersections. The route was good. About an hour or so long. Probably about 45 miles. Now to report the disappointing parts. Even before the ride started a biker went down. He was pulling into the parking lot of church and not pay attention. His buddies all stopped but he did not until he grabbed a whole handful of front brake and went down in a ball of sparks. He needed several stitches to close the wound on his arm. His bike was pretty messed up. Typical Harley gear. tank top no helmet. We got back to the church for lunch around 1Pm or so. All I wanted was a drink of water. Guess what no water but plenty of beer. I was/am very disappointed with the church for allowing this. They even bought the kegs. So if you did not want beer you had nothing to drink. Well I got some tap water. No soda. Now the ironic part of the whole thing is the ride was for people killed while riding. I wonder how many of them were killed due to alcohol. Why would any church encourage such behavior? Before the ride we were asked to sign a waiver. Do they think the waiver is going to secure if someone leaves the church aster the ride drunk and gets killed? Any lawyer worth their salt would be all over it. It just makes no sense. I am very disappointed in the church for encouraging this type of behavior. I plan on writing the church about the whole thing. Not sure it will make a difference but I need to say my piece.

Now that's just silly stupid. Being a church function I would have thought this was a ride that you could bring one of your kids on if you so desired. Apparently not. Perhaps suggest to them that they hire/consult with a qualified MSF instructor prior to ever engaging in such activities again. This is one I'll likely remember if ever thinking about a ride like this. Ask first...

I have seen this before as well (church or police(!) sponsored events with beer being served) and it just burns my ass. I guess the dollar is more important than the spirit... :(

This is why I will not ride in a fund raising event anymore, which is sad because I would be willing to do it almost every weekend if it was really centered around the cause and incorporated/promoted safe riding.
