I noticed today while riding the temperature gauge read above the center of the gauge. Is this normal on a hot day or is it something I should be concerned about. The coolant reservoir was a bit low so I added some. I did not notice whether the fans were kicking in or not. I checked the fan fuses and they were fine. Is a single fan sufficient to cool the bike. I presume it is a circulating loop between both radiators.

That gauge needle will swing close to the upper marks and your fans will come on (both of 'em) and cool down thangs pretty quick. If it gets too hot, due to low coolant or whatever, you'll see a dash light enable, in red. Ole Toad has never shown the red dash light, butt the fans have come on a time or two in hot-hot weather, or when slowly moving along in heavy traffic.

Thanks for the response. I am a bit sensitive to this issue because I warp a rod on a kawasaki 800B I had about two years ago when the cooling fan failed.

Hey Rocky, not to worry. It's just as Dick said.
Yesterday at about 5;30 pm I noticed a nice, crisp 102 degrees around DeZavala and IH10.

First time that happened to my LT, it scared the crap outta me too. Those fans will cool it down PDQ. So far the GT hasn't gotten above the half way mark in all this heat.

When the temp gets above 80, a long stop light can cause the fans on my LT to come on. They work well when they run; cool the bike down pretty fast. However, Dick says his fans rarely run (in Texas). Also, when the air temp is above 80, the bike won't maintain normal running temp unless I stay at about 50 mph. Is this normal? Should I suspect my water pump or thermostat?

NO! Dick's fans rarely run because he rarely rides. See related RTE topics. My guage hits 80-90% on a daily basis. Fans kick on in minutes at 30f or 90f. If you aren't moving they will come on at about 80 percent of the guage. I doubt a day goes by without my fans kicking on. Houston freeways do that to you. Changing out your cap would be a good move about every 4 years.

Mine is the same way. The needle will get close to the red mark and then I can hear the woosh of the fans. It's great the way the hot air blows out the side on the bike onto the legs. As soon as I can get moving again, the needle will come back down.

Thanks for your reasurring comments. It's nice to hear everything is normal.
I too like the way the fans blow out each side; kind of like a jet; cool.
