All I can say is why did I wait so long to get a BMW... After 15 years on Harleys, although I did enjoy them, this LT is something else... I can't stop riding it, I'm late to work, skip out for way too long, and leave early.

I have used the search button to see about one problem that I am having. I did see lots of stuff about the aftermarket trunk latch that one of the members here makes. They look very high quality, but I could not find why all the people seemed so interested in them. Could it be that the trunk won't stay closed? Mine will not. Locked or not, it will pop open often. I called the service Mgr. at the dealer and he said that he had never heard of this problem and to bring it back on friday for a look see. I told him I hope they can fix it as the gray duct tape looks horrible.

So is that why the need for the members skilled machine shop work. Do I need to order one right away or do you BMW can make it stay shut?

other than that

I will in a little while when I get home. Not much to see, just won't stay shut. Looks normal just seems a little flimsy on the outside edge though. The hooks also seem as though they don't come all the way down.

you will only need the replacement if the latch breaks, the latch is not a consumable item if it breaks you need to replace the top box complete $$$$$ sounds like it is not closing properly there are 2 locking clips underneath that keep it closed, when you push the button they let go of the rod and the lid opens should just need an ajustment.

I could not agree more. I bought mine from Mike in 03'. Peter in service is a great guy just always seems pissed off. :)

The owner is a dick but you never have to deal with him.

Good luck on the latch. I have had some trouble with mine but never with it locked.
