The fuel pump died two weeks ago :(. I had it towed to Ride West BMW from work which was where it died, thank you RV Roadhelp. It took one day to diagnose the problem and two weeks until I got my bike back. It must be the busy season because they supposedly had the parts in stock. They pulled off the pump controller and there was water in the fuel pump contacts. The controller electronics were corroded as well. My bike had the recall o-ring installed in November of 2006 .

I asked the usual questions like, "I suppose riding in the rain wasn't considered when they designed this?" and "Should I be getting my bike blessed every year as a preventative solution?". They didn't have a clue what to do about it. They said maybe the o-ring was pinched when it was installed. That certainly helped boost my confidence level . They did say the part would be warranted for two years. I should have asked if they were going to pay for towing when it dies and I'm 30 miles from the nearest paved road but I already knew the answer.

They apparently don't have room to keep customer bikes inside during the day so they park them outside. I looked down into the area of the fuel pump controller and there was already a pool of water in the recessed area. I guess I will try to get thing dried out and pack some dielectric grease around the base of the controller. It's either that or carry a spare controller.

At least it's running good again :p.

OOOPPPSSS! My appologies to the moderators. I somehow put this in the GPS forum rather than the GS forum. I went a letter to far I guess :). Please move the thread to the GS forum if you so desire.

Your not the only one this has happened to..........At CCR last year the, evening before we were to leave for home the power connections in the tank broke from corrosion. I can tell you the fuel pump from a 93 ford Taurus will work in place of the factory BMW pump.
