I am thinking of getting one of Ron's KonTour seats.
Here's the problem...anybody out there got one? Do you like the seats? Do you have pictures...please?
I ask because they are very expensive, and I have to send it and be without a seat for a few weeks this time of year.

Ron has been kind and answered my questions concerning cost:D ...just looking for some feedback before spending the big $$$$$'s ;)

I hear its a good hot weather seat, air cooled, great for Texas, and Arizona. Any cold, rain climate users?

Rain covers optional - OF COURSE! ;)

The best thing about it is you can fart without standing up. If you treat it about once a year with scotchguard rain will just bead & run off.

I like mine and Ron has been good to deal with. I needed him to remake my seat a second time a little thicker and stiffer and he did it without any hesitation, he said just send her back in. I have put over 20K on it and it looks the sames as the day I got it. I love that material (way stonger than leather), especially in hot weather. The color matches almost perfect the pic makes it look different, but then again I haven't cleaned the seat since the day I put it on. Here are some pic's.

I love mine! Had them on the LT, have them on the GT and will have them on the next bike(s).

No monkey butt here.

I had one on my LT, now have one on my RT. I highly recommend the KonTour seats. I completed Ironbutt rides on each bike with the Kontour seats. No problems.

I have had a KonTour since 2005. I highly recommend getting the rain cover, or making your own. The largest walmart bag will work if necessary.

Also, in cold temps, the foam will be hard until it warms up. Quality of workmanship is what you would expect.

I have a question ... I live in South Africa and it will be quite costly to ship a saddle from here ... do they have complete saddles available ?

I originally had the stock soft seat option and absolutely hated it. Couldn't ride 100 miles without severe discomfort.

I sent my seat to "Mr Kontour" in spring of 2007. Seat came back on time as promised. Very good quality and looks. Unfortunately, in my case, it is not much of an improvement over the stock seat. I still cannot ride more than 150 miles without my groin/butt/tail bone area going sore. I did give Ron my correct weight and assume he made it correctly so I can't say it's the seats fault.

With that being said, I'm a heavier person and maybe it's just something I have to live with. I am disappointed that I spent big dollars on a seat and still can't ride very long. I've also bought a Back-up backrest and it combined with the seat does help a bit.

My advise is to borrow someones if you can before spending $500 on any aftermarket seat.

Ron (like most of the custom seat guys) will re-do your seat to try and make it better. Have you given him a chance to make it right for you? Tell him where the pain lies, and I'll bet he can improve it.

I don't have a Kontour seat, but have never heard any complaints about their service.

I generally lurk, but have now some thoughts on custom seats. I have had three, two Russell's and one Bill Mayer. For me, each of the seats would increase my riding distance, but, only a couple of hundred miles. I would go from about 150 miles to may be 300 without a large increase in pain. Luckily, I attended a local club meeting that had a work physical therapist show us how best to ride a motorcycle. The secret for me was her recommendation to move or reposition your butt every 10 minutes, EVERY 10 minutes. Now, I shift all over the seat every 10 minutes and it helps. 1000 mile days are still difficult, but I can do them if I need to. She had specific recommendations for wrist position and posture. One of the best meetings I have ever attended. I really loved the quality of the custom seats, but, they never cured my pain problem. So my option is the stock seat and an extra thick sheepskin and move around. Seems to work...Just one persons opinion.....YMMV. Best, Bob

My intent was not to bash Ron or the Kontour seats. I said the deliver time was as promised and quality/looks was good, so the service was not in question. I just was pointing out that in MY CASE, it didn't help as much as I hoped and recommended, if possible, to test someones elses out to aid in a decision. FWIW, this winter I do plan on sending it back to Ron to see if there is anything that can be done.

I have one and it might be for sale. When I first got it it was as hard as a rock. It was winter and the material seems like it gets harder when it gets cold out. I had the whole riders seat replace but not the passenger. Another issue I had was a 1/2" - 3/4 gap between my seat and the passengers. Ron told me that when the seat is new its wrapped tighty and will eventually loosen up up when the seat breaks in. I rode it all last season and it was like sitting on a brick and the rear part of the front seat never closed the gap.

I did send it back to Ron (you pay for shipping and he pays to send it to you) over the winter and he did something to the seat to make it a little bit softer. To fix the gap issue he drilled holes 1/2" rearward of the stock holes instead of fixing the back. Cheesy at best and only made it more difficult to close the seat. Still lots of gaps on the sides of the seat. I've been riding it since and its still not comfortable.

Im not sure I buy into the material he uses for the cover. I cant seem to feel any air getting thru the holes. I think that once weight is put on the saddle the holes get closed. Some folks complained about it when it gets wet but I've never rode it in a downpour. What I dont like about it is that you cant seem to slide on the seat. I wear jeans, leathers, various BMW textiles and you just cant slide. That might not be a problem for all. WHat I really liked was that Ron was able to keep the stock appearance of the seat. I

Im going to gut thru it this summer and maybe I will get used to it or it will get used to me. Otherwise its going on sale. This is a long distance tourer and it sucks if your long distance is a couple of hours.

What I really liked was that Ron was able to keep the stock appearance of the seat (except for the fabric). I had a Russell on my RT that was like riding on air but looked like hell. I may have to back.
