View Full Version : I think we need an RTE

I see these RTEs talked about in the South Central forum a lot. Clearly, those Texas folks enjoy their food. I don't see much happening in southern CA. I think we need one, maybe on a Sunday.

There are various motorcycle destinations, but any place that has good eats would suffice. The 29th should work out well for me. Anyone interested? I'm open to suggestions as to where (or when).

What does RTE stand for in the context you used?

Hmm, I thought it meant Ride to Eat, as in ride somewhere fun, meet people and have lunch, but maybe I've completely confused the meaning. Still, it sounds like a good idea.

We did an LD/RTE here once (http://www.hellskitchen-ca.com/). Was a nice ride.

That's pretty convenient for me. I've been there once, and it was pretty good.

The downside with places on top of the hill/mountain is no running water. But, they have wet ones. And the ride on Ortega Hwy is nice. Construction on the west side can add delays, but it's still fun.

Any other thoughts?

Another fun ride is to Borrego Springs. It's a hot place, especially at the end of June. It should be over 100. Makes walking into the only bar in town (that I know of) an oasis. The food is good, and the people are nice.

That's a great idea. Just pick a time and place, then start up an attendees list. That seems to work the best.

Sure, some folks won't be ale to make it no matter what date you pick. But maybe they can make the next one instead.

That is EdZackery what we do here in South Central and get a great turn out. ;) Last weekend we had a "SMALL" RTE for breakfast but only had 33 nice folks show up.

I don't get a lot of free time to go out riding for fun. Someday.

One thing that I do every once in a while is join the folks at Brown Motor Works (BMW) in Pomona, CA for breakfast at 7:00 AM on Saturdays. It's early, so I can go, enjoy the breakfast with the guys, look around the shop, and be home without stealing the day from my family. The restaurant is just your basic coffee shop, but the food is good.

Sometimes I stop there first, then ride out to Chaparral in San Bernardino. Chaparral opens at 8:00 on Saturdays, so I can still be home early.

If you're in Orange County, you can take the twisty route over the hills by getting off the 57 freeway at Lambert, which becomes Carbon Canyon Road. At that time of the day, it is nearly empty of cars.

Howdy, Folks. I'm going to toss out an idea. (Take a grip...)

I'm flying into LAX on the 18th to RON with Tim Barstow as I'm buying his '02 LTE. I'll be leaving the next day to ride back to God's Country. I'd love the chance to meet and greet some of the Good Folks in the Great State of Southern California (I kin tahlk suthurn durn gud, do that count wit y'all?) Wednesday evening. I know the folks up there in Chilly Northern Cali do a Hump Day Dinner Thang, what would you chillins think of something like that? Could be a great chance to get a detailed description on how the LT does pretty good on ice dancing...

I kin tahlk suthurn durn gud, do that count wit y'all?Karl, this is southern CA, not Mississippi. We speak Spanish, not Hillbilly.

That's a couple days before a very tough weekend for me, but I've gotta eat dinner anyway, right? Whereabouts will you be? North of LA is a bit of a stretch for a school night, but LA area or south is doable. If you tell us where you'll be, maybe someone can pick a good place nearby. I'm on a GT, so I won't be much help in your education on the LT.

As for the RTE, does Saturday or Sunday work better for people? Is Borrego Springs more accessible for AZ folks? Hell's Kitchen has decent food, and I can make the trip as long a drive as I want. I'll just pick something if there aren't any strong preferences, but we have time for suggestions.

I agree it seems as if the South Central guys do a lot together. Might be that they don't have to contend with LA. I'm definitely in favor of a SoCal RTE. As we are spread out over a pretty divers geographical area, with 16 + million soles in our back yard, and traffic patterns, weeknights will be tough to get attendance. Saturday mornings would be great is we set a time that allows some of us a couple hours to get there. We could have a late breakfast around 9:00AM and then ride somewhere together. Those who need to get home could skip the ride and head home. Let me know when & where and I'll do my best to be there.

Very much so however we need to be concerned with the temps and how high they may reach.

Karl,

I'm available for dinner on June 18th and look forward to meeting you. I won't be able to give you good LT advice; I am another GT rider.

Let me know where and when to meet. As with Bob(noxious), I live and work in Orange County, so LA, or south of LA, or west of LA is better for me, too, but I'll go wherever.

If it's hot we can always hit the beach or the mountians.

I'm getting hungry already. :)

Hola, Roberto.

Carlos.

I'll be Remain Over Night with Tim Barstow on Wednesday in Trabuco Canyon over on the east side of the LA area. (Hey, Steve, step out on the porch and look up. Google Earth and me are waving at you) I can't say for Steve, but I'd be willing to meet just about anywhere in the OC area or the LA basin for that matter. Do I need to bring gas mask and supplemental O2? Unfortunately, I'm only going to be there Wednesday PM and am hauling butt for Phoenix Thursday. (You folks in Phoenix had better be prepared) I would most especially appreciate having a chance to meet you guys. (and gals).

As for the LT stuff, I have a fair amount of experience on the scoot. I did invent K1200LT Pairs Ice Dancing and walked away to tell about it. Please let me know how this would work for you.

Please understand, folks, I'd love to do a weekend meet and greet wit' y'all, but I gots to be home on Saturday night.

Howdy, Steve. I'll be Remain Over Night with Tim Barstow on Wednesday in Trabuco Canyon over on the east side of the LA area.Us locals would not consider Trabuco Canyon the east side of LA. You're very close to me. I live in Lake Forest, about 20 minutes away on surface streets.

If we stay in the area, I can make it, and I'd like to meet up for dinner. Strangely enough, my neighbor is having a high school graduation party that same night (whoever heard of this), so I would like to get back and make a showing. My vote, let's meet around 6 PM, or 8PM. That way I can do both.

Tons of places to eat in the OC. If you give us some idea of what you might like, I'm sure we can come up with suggestions.

Hi, Bob. I'm pretty much a midwest cuisine kind of guy because my plumbing doesn't like real spicy. A decent omelet is good, as is a simple steak. Exactly where to go will be up to youse guys.

Since I will have been up since about 3 - oh god - AM getting together in the 6:00 time frame works really well. You guys would enjoy me going face down in the salad plate way too much.

Going back to the original thread...
I am a dad and have my daughters every other weekend. Unfortunately the 29th of June won't work for me as it is the weekend WITH the kids, but June 22 or July 6 and every other weekend after that would work for me.

Bobnoxous
Jun 16th, 2008, 7:51 pm
Let's plan on July 6th. It's independence day weekend, but I doubt many people have Monday off, so you've got to head home anyway. Just swing by.

As for destinations, a couple other suggestions from my travels this weekend. I was driving out Hwy 76 (and passed an ambulance attending to a downed biker, unfortunately) and passed "The Hideaway", a few miles east of Lake Henshaw. It's a little hidden and not real obvious from the road, but they kind of gave it away with a sign out front. It's a place I've been meaning to check out sometime. I have no idea if it's any good, but it did have quite a few bikes.

Another thought was old town Temecula. I had dinner there this weekend in a Mexican restaurant (The Bank), and there's a cafe that was well recommended a block or so away, but I cannot come up with the name right now. The downtown area seemed to be a bike attraction too, mostly it seems for a burger joint.

I wanted to throw those ideas out there for people to comment on. We have some time.

As of now - I'm in. I'll definitely enjoy the ride from the desert over the mountain via Palms to Pines Highway to Temecula. Anywhere as long as it is out of this 114 degree heat.

Okay, it's getting close to the SW RTE on July 6th. I'll put out 3 choices, and those interested in joining us, make a recommendation. How about if we meet for breakfast/lunch at 10 AM? If people are traveling a ways, we can certainly push it out.

1. Hells Kitchen on Ortega Hwy, SW of Lake Elsinore. If coming from the west, the road is one lane, closed completely at night. There will be a backup. The food is decent, and the atmosphere is friendly.

2. Swing Inn in old town Temecula. Haven't eaten there, but it looks pretty popular when I was there a couple weeks ago, and the locals recommended it. Here's their menu (http://www.swinginncafe.com) .

3. The Hideaway, near Lake Henshaw, CA. I've only driven by it. Lots of bikes on the weekends, but a google search seems to indicate it's almost all cruisers. Maybe it's not friendly to the BMW crowd. If anyone has some more insight, please give.

Borrego Springs will be too hot for most, about 108.

Looks like I won't be able to make it. Grandkids will be here for the 4th. Not that they want to spend time with - they just want to use the pool. I still think a SoCal RTE is a great idea. Sorry I won't make this one.

Maybe I waited too long to solidify this, but there was some side discussion on the time and place. So, here's the plan.

Sunday, 9 AM at the Harbor House in Dana Point. This has a nice view on the ocean. I don't know how crowded it will be, but if we're there by 9 or so, it shouldn't be too bad.

If you need directions or want to update your attendance on Sunday, my phone # is 949-795-1224.

Attendees:
1. Bob (me) and Michelle
