The new RT is sitting in the garage with 1km on the odo and 2 ft. of snow outside the door...Its going to be awhile before I can get some riding in so I am thinking of trailering somewhere south in late March or early April to try and get the break-in out of the way.
I live just over the border from Massena N.Y. so 12 hrs down I-81 puts me in Front Royal Va. where I believe the Skylline Pkwy begins...
Just wondering if anyone has suggestions re timing for weather...I don't want to go too early and freeze parts off :-).
Appreciate any suggestions,
Jim W.

In the interests of full disclosure ... one (or more) of the attendees at Spring Training Camp I in April 2005 rode home in the snow. Even as far south as western NC, April is an 'iffy' time of year - mebbe nice, mebbe not.

Jim,
I rode Skyline the week after Thanksgiving this past year and the Park Service had closed down the visitors centers and camp grounds for the season. It might be worth a call or check their website site to see when they reopen them. This will give you an idea when they usually expect weather and temps to be somewhat acceptable.

If you want to come down to SW Florida I can positively guarantee you no snow or ice...a hurricane maybe, but no snow or ice. :)

Thanks for the suggestions all...I did a 'pratice' on/off the new trailer the other day in preperation for Daytona in March...been wanting to do that for years so what the heck, another days drive south and as far as Jack's part of the country, and then maybe a jaunt (jaunt?) down to Weston to visit a friend and back. Should take care of the break-in...and I get to see what the big deal is about Daytona in March.
Lottsa fun loading the bike onto a 'tilting' trailer from an ice covered driveway. Sand, carpet nailed to the ice...etc.. $30,000.00 motorcycle, was I nervous? I'm still shaky...but it worked and I'm ready to roll.
