If a group of riders would be interested, I would be willing to show a good part of Northern Utah with an approximate 350 mile ride that takes about 7 - 8 hours. Breaks included. It includes some of the roads that are already posted and some that aren't. I guarantee big smiles and the rider being tired at the end of the day. The ride can be modified easily for a shorter run if needed.
Also those of you that ride the Alpine loop, be sure to visit the Cascade Springs aquifer. It's some thing to see.
Also know of other places to ride if anyone wants to know.

I just love riding your state and can't wait to get there (though we left Sunday).
On a side note: while visiting the BMW dealer in Salt Lake, who happened to ride up, but Larry Schumer and another guy (sorry, can't remember his name) on LT's. It was a great reunion and Larry gave us some leads on finding a pin striper.
Now, if only we can find a tat artist to show up.... sigh.

Many, many tat guys and gals in the Salt Lake area. I bet if you ask, you'll get a good reply.

We roamed SLC, phone book in hand lining up pin stripers and didn't bother with tatoo folks since there was one in Park City. Get to Park City and find out the guy moved to SLC. Go figure.
I went into the CCR data base to call you and you aren't signed up. Whatzupwidthat?

Did I understand the locals to day that the pass to ride over to Kamas is still sometimes closed due to snow at the time we'll be up there? And what was the restaurant that they mentioned over there with dinosaur sized pancakes? I'm going to be wanting some cold rides -- Austin has broken its high temperature record three days in a row today. Four anyone?
Pancakes .... sigh. I'm in Swiss pastry withdrawal....

I would like to do the ride on Wednesday. This would be the best day to insure most of those 4 wheelers are at work and not in the way.
For everyone's knowledge. Friday will be a good day to stay away from all major roads. Utah (on long weekends) gets flooded with RVs of all different types. I-15, I-80, US 40, Provo Canyon by mid day will be just covered in RVs. Mirror lake area will have a fair amount of RV traffic too.
Just a suggestion. Save the Alpine loop for your Friday look see. There will be some RVs up there but nothing compared what will be heading up into the mountains. One can spend hours up in the Alpine loop just messing around.
Also for everyone's knowledge. Utah drivers. There are many good drivers out there. However, there are way too many fruit cakes out there too. I drive big rigs locally here in the Salt Lake area, and there are many that even challenge me while I'm driving. Watch them while passing an on ramp. Many won't and don't look. They just figure you will get out of their way. Also watch when coming up to a off ramp or a cross road. Drivers will bust butt to get in front of you then slam on their brakes so they can make the turn.
And one more thing. Alcohol Those of you that consume the stuff. They have weird laws here. Check ahead what will be available. i.e. The bar in the hotel might close way earlier than you want. We have state liquor stores here and not any regular liquor stores anywhere.

I've been asked to give out an itinerary of the ride I suggested. After mapping it out, the whole ride is 411 miles. This can be cut down to 320 miles if wanted. More on this later. Leave Midway via US 40 going north to I-80. I-80 west bound towards SLC to East Canyon exit. East Canyon Road (Utah 65) to East Canyon Reservoir. Utah 66 to Morgan. I-84 to Mountain Green. 167 to Huntsville. 39 to Woodruff. 16/30 to Bear Lake/Garden City. 89 to Brigham City. I-15, I-84 and I-80 to Evanston Wy. At I-80, if people are tired they can go west to Park City and then to Midway. Only about 70 miles to hotel. At Evanston take 150 to Francis. Mirror Lake bypass. From Francis to hotel is about 15 miles.
The fun stuff now. Utah 65. 12 miles. Lots of switch backs and areas of only 35 mph. This is my favorite road. Utah 66 to Morgan. 8 miles Nice curvy road. Speeds only about 50. It's also a farm road. I-84 to Mountain Green. A few curves. Speed about 70. 10 miles 167 to Huntsville. Steep hill up and down to other side. 13 miles. Good sweepers to enjoy. 39 to Woodruff. Good fast two lane wide road. Lots of grins on this road. 50 miles Woodruff to Garden City/Bear Lake. BORING!!! Except when the road drops down to the Lake. 40 miles. Mandatory stop for Raspberry shake, maybe lunch here.
US 89. Fun, fun and more fun. To Brigham City. Fuel stop. 65 miles. I-15, I-84 and I-80 to Evanston. 98 miles. I-84 has a couple good sections for some serious leaning over. At I-80 interchange, a decision can be made to head back to Midway or onto Evanston and then Mirror Lake. Wyoming and Utah 150. 80 miles to Midway.
Another way. At Huntsville go to Ogden then to Brigham City then to Garden City. Then to Evanston and onto Mirror Lake and then to Midway. This route would be 337 miles. Would lose all that 98 miles freeway. Also would lose 50 miles of Monte Cristo pass to Woodruff. I'll let you all decide the exact route. I get to ride it any time I want. This ride is for you......
Terry
PS The ride can be done on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Friday, ain't no way. The stupids will be out with their RVs.

Count us in, whenever it is. I'd like nothing better than to have someone who knows the roads show us the way. Thanks for offering to do this.

My wife and I have a vacation home in Eden(Close to Huntsville) and this might be a good place to stop for a break during this ride. I have also ridden all these routes and would love to go on this ride.

I'm glad you're not leading. There's no telling where you GPS would take us. :p :DNope...no way, but I have to say Steve, that was a lesson I will NEVER FORGET! Even when Betty tells me to go down a road that looks fine, I question her if it is off the beaten path. Especially if it leads into gravel road!I have been practicing with the darn thing and I feel I have a much better handle in the info she gives now, but none the less, I don't rely on it 100%.
BTW...Can't wait to see you again...I love ya man! :bmw:

Terry are you registered for CCR? If not, why not? It seems like you live close enough that you could stay at home and come in for the day and night festivities if you wanted. Plus the $139 registration fee gives you access to all the things that are going on and supporting this year's charity, which is what CCR is really all about.
So, register (http://www.curvecowboyreunion.com/.registration.php%5B/url)?

I just got a message that makes the ride a "not going to happen". Seems the insurance won't cover in case there is an accident and some one gets hurt or worse. So I'm just going to bow out of it all and just work instead. I've already posted the roads to take so you all can just do it at when ever you'd like.
Have a good one.

TerryWell now that sucks! Does that mean you are not going to even attend the CCR all together? Hope this "message" isn't keeping you from attending.
Thanks at least for the "Itinerary" of roads.

When you wrote this, yes there were still many roads that had snow ... NOT any more!! You'll still get the 'coolness' on the alpine roads but the summer heat is here! Although you never can tell, I predict that late August will be ... variable! How's that for being non committal on Utah's weather?!?

I hate large posts ... but, no way around this one. I've 'Google Mapped' Terry's route (and added a couple of side roads I like!) for everyone's information. I understand the insurance issue, but if a 'few friends' would like to ride together on something that resembles this route ;) ... some time ... let me know ...
