While at my localSportbike shop where I mount my tires; the owner handed me a K&N Oil Filter for my BMW R1200GS. KN-164
He also had the K&N filter for the K1200LT.

The fist the you notice different between the K&N and the OEM filter is the 17mm wrench Nut, where the OEM filter requires a special cup style wrench.

The only visible difference internally is the baffle/check valve.

The OEM Oil Filter costs $18 at the local bmw dealer. The K&N cost me $15.50.
