Has anyone put together a mountain pass route totaling 100,000 feet? That could be done in one day?!
I've been thinking about this now that the passes are open. Here's what I've got so far:
Donner 7,085
Echo 7,382
Dagget 7,334
Luther 7,740
Carson 8,650
Ebbetts 8,730
Pacific Grade 8,050
Monitor 8,314
Sonora 9,624
Tioga 9,943
Conway Summit 8,143
Deadman Summit 8,041
Devils Gate 7,519
Minaret 9,150
TOTAL 115,705 FEET

That's an interesting idea. I did read on another board that there is a ride like that in Colorado. Their summits are higher:D
You could skip a couple of those and still hit 100,000. If you put a route together that's feasible I bet you'd get some takers in this group. John could make it the July bonus for the "Ride to Nowhere";)

This was posted a few weeks ago commencing in Denver:

They are both great ideas!

I would be very interested to ride this if you do it in July-ish.

It looks like a 700+ mile loop. I'm playing with my mapping software to shorten the ride. Didn't want it to be a endurance ride as my passenger loves to ride. Could make it a 2 day ride, but the first day would still be 400+ miles.
Hopefully more to come.
Open to suggestions.

You got my interest and I spent some time today trying to locate the passes on Streets and Trips. I found one you didn't have on your list (Johnson Pass, near Echo Summit) and couldn't find a location for Minaret Pass or Pacific Grade. There were lots of references on the internet but no definitive locations.
Adding Johnson Pass and without Minaret or Pacific I get to 105,882 feet in 417 miles (one way) but the route is basically all on 395 with offshoots up the mountains to get to the pass; then turn around and back to 395. That's probably not in the spirit of the thing, right?
Cheers!

This is how some of the Colorado 100k ride is structured. All depends on the year. The usual route is around 500 miles with some out and backs. A 500 mile day in the mountains is definetely doable and can be very enjoyable. Just need to time to the weather. I made the Colorado ride 3 years in a row and can tell you I saw every type of weather imaginable to include sleet and snow and it is held the 1st Saturday each August. I would think the weather her in California would be more cooperative.

Minaret is down in Mammoth Lake area. Pacific is on Hwy 4 East of Ebbetts Pass. Johnson pass would help to shorten the trip. I had thought of crossing over on each pass rather and back tracking. I don't know if I can attach the Garmin route to this thread. I'll attempt to attached it later, as it's on my computer at work.
Has anybody been on the Colorado 100,000 ft ride? How do they do their routes?

Per the Colorado post - Raymond (ConspiracyofOne) has done it 3 times!
btw - I'd be interested in the California ride, too. Unfortunately, no GPS here, so can't help you with that part.
