This year we would like to poll the particpants to see the desire for additional bike coverage.
We will have the traditional 24K type service on an LT again this year and a brake system flush like we added last year. Typically this is done on Wednesday to allow for maximum participation.
So if you have an R bike or a GT and would like to learn how to service it please take a few minutes and do the survey. We have the LT 48K service bike set already. If you would like to volunteer as a host mechanic or volunteer your machine as a demo unit please PM me.

I'll probably hold a tech session again this summer at my place if there is a demand. If you are due (never mind, I saw your "wreck" post glad you are OK) we can start planning for it. But Katnapinn Steve beat you out for CCR.

This is a bit late, but here goes. Would it be beyond the scope of tech sessions to rebuild an LT rear end? Also, in addition to drilling weep hole, what about replacing the clutch slave cylinder?

I will ask CharlieVT if he is coming to CCR. He has a rear drive to rebuild after shipping his spare to Saileyboy who was stuck on the road in FL. Other wise I don't think we will be able to offer this. I'll check though.
You have to remove the slave to drill the weep hole so replacing the slave would be included. I may end up using my bike as I have yet to do this.

+1 on the FD rebuild. Thanks.

I bought a GS911 and now have it Bluetooth linked to my cell phone. I was going to pack it for the trip and would certainly be willing to demonstrate on this bike (or others) if anyone interested.

Jim,
If you are willing to conduct the demo - we will have plenty of space to add you in. I will have mine there as well (never travel with out it) but I'll be tied up. I appreciate the offer and so will our attendees.
Thanks

Unfortunately the logistics of this demo cannot be accomodated at this CCR. The use of special tools and oven/freezer preclude an actual demo. We may have a display of the process and some one there to answer questions. This not for the average home mechanic.
Thanks for your interest.

John PM'd me and asked about doing a FD rebuild demo during the Tech Session. I explained that I use my bride's oven and freezer, air impact wrench, micrometer and stand setup, and various other tools. And I generally take a couple of days to do the job. Not easy to do at CCR.
What I will do is try to document my next final drive rebuilt and set up a poster display (maybe a DVD video if I get that ambitious).
I envision two elements: (1) how to do a "roadside" final drive change with a replacement final drive. This is relatively easy to do and within the capabilities of most anyone. (2) Actual rebuilding of a final drive. My rebuilding involves replacement of the crown wheel bearing and seal and measurement for proper pre-load shim thickness. Inspection of other components for damage but replacement of the tapered roller bearing and gear lash of the pinion and bevel gears won't be covered. (Based on my estimate of parts costs, if these components need replacing, replacing the whole final drive makes sense anyway.)

I'm certainly willing. Do you have an idea what day that would be? I was thinking of hooking up for the ride thru northern Utah - but that day has not been finalized yet.

Wednesday is the day for all the tech demos. We have a large room and can accomodate several different functions at once. The plan is to finish before the train trip that evening.

Sounds good. All I will need is a bike to connect up to the GS911

John, just a suggestion....maybe tie this 911 demo with the Brake Flush demo. After we're finished flushing we need to reset anyway.
See ya soon, Bob

The integral brakes don't need to be reset (they self re-set upon fault clearing) and the GS-911 cannot reset the ABS II units (there is an alternate procedure for doing this). But thanks for the suggestion. You up for a flush? Oops I see by your sig line you no longer have an LT, Sorry.
