May 23rd from Bloomberg:

To help counter the higher raw material costs, Tokyo-based Bridgestone raised prices on tires in Japan and Europe by as much as 10 percent this year. The company plans to boost U.S. and Canadian tire prices in June.

Those crappy US built "retreads" that I talked about a few months ago (that are actually built to specifications BETTER than new tires) are starting to look pretty interesting at $79.00 for the front 120/70 R17 delivered to your door.

The same is true for car tires: Increases are on the way. The only saving grace:slowing new car production keeps tiremakers inventories high and puts pressure on prices. This should not be the case for MC tires. So, buy now!

PS: I am not going to run retreads, no matter what specifications they are built to. I am just a stubborn German, that hates not to have total confidence in his tires :p

I am with you Wolfgang....I will run retreads when there are no new tires available!

Now if Tomahawk would start remanufacturing the rears, I'd run a complete set!

I'm a stubborn GERMAN kraut eater too - :D

...that's why I insist that tires mounted on my GERMAN motorcycle are inspected by a GERMAN engineered laser shearography machine made by SDS Systemtechnik GmbH, at an FAA Certified Facility right here in the good ol' USA BEFORE they are mounted on my bike.

Something that NO OTHER motorcycle tire manufacturer does, not even the famous GERMAN one! :p

Maybe if they did we wouldn't see a catastrophic failure (just one out of hundreds) like this Bridgestone rear mounted on an LT ... that was "factory" fresh.....

Ron, I am sure the facts are all on your side, you always seem to research what you'r talking about. I just know that if was going thru a curve with my bike overloaded and my wife on the back at illegal speed I would not be able to shake the thought of running on retreads...
Thats all... its me...

As far as that fancy machine is concerned, it looks like it was hijacked from the TSA :histerica

I already bought my next set for late summer. THEN I get an e-mail from Ron Ayers they are selling tires through the 31st at cost +10%. Not a bad deal.

Thanks for the dose of reality! All things considered we have it pretty good here in the US, especially in Texas.

True dat! ...and here in AZ as well.

I filled up my car yesterday at Costco and had to pinch myself that I was ONLY paying $3.67 for PREMIUM.

I actually thought "...hey, this isn't too bad" as my debit card rang up $45.00.

The assimilation is complete - I am now Borg. :abduct:

I'm too late! After reading this and knowing that by the end of summer I will need two new ones, I called Bob's to see about pricing. YEEEEAK--the price of the rear Metzler 880 has gone up $100 in less then 18 months (last time I bought one). Interestingly enough and something they could not explain, the price of a Metzler for the front has gone up about $10.00 in the same time frame. They will not mount any tires they don't sell, so I guess I will bite the bullet and buy now and save them for Sept. when I need them.

I understand petro products and all that but this seems a bit extreme!

A few months ago, I decided to hunt on the Eu eBay from tubes made in Eu during the late 50s and early 60s (Yup tubes. Those glow in the dark thingies you used to find in radios and TVs).

I had to spend $1.36 to buy 1 Euro.
The rate a few days ago was around $1.57 for 1 Euro.

I've been wondering how Ron was doing with his retreads?

I have been hunting around and have two sets of new backup tires BT020 Radials bought from other sites and members here . . . pays to stock up on consumable parts these days - especially when there is a deal to be made!! :)

I really enjoy the BT020's and have had none of the problems others have mentioned here on the board. However I may not be as aggressive a rider with #1 in the pillion seat!! :D

The free tire offer from Toyota, I got when we bought the new car, is looking real good about now! Toyota gave me free tires as long as I own my car!
