Stock Shocks - It is not a normal thing to be able to rebuild the stock shock - But there has been a place in Canada that used to do just that and probably still does.

The rear shock can be revalved and resprung, I had Jim Lindemann at Lindemann Race Suspension (he's in San Jose) do that to my 99. The front cannot be modified, though, and is basically a disposable item. I got Ohlins for my 02 (and ran them on my 05 as well) and the ride quality is far superior to any rebuild you can do to the stock suspension. You spent your money wisely.

I am wondering what a motorcycle (LT) with worn out shocks does that new Ohlins would correct, and what new Ohlins would do that old shocks are not doing. Most of my riding is on straight/flat hi-ways, one S curve 15 miles from home. I know what worn out shocks do on a car, but wonder what is the benefit is on motorcycles other than tire wear.
Any and all positive comments welcome..... :-)

I just had a set of Wiburs put on my 99LT yesterday. It had 54,500 miles on the stock shocks.
I haven't done much riding to really test them out other than riding home from Austin, but the bike has a much better feel on rough pavement and bumps.
I've been noticing that when taking the bike off the center stand it felt as if it dropped 4 inches and bounced with the original shocks. With the new Wilburs yesterday the bike just rolled off the center stand with little vertical motion and no bouncing.
The original shock were far gone and I had just gotten used to it.
