I am currently in New Braunfels with a couple of riding buddies. We are taking a days rest from our cross country trip, the heat has gotten to us. Anyway, where would be an interesting couple hour trip through the Hill Country?
Thanks

Last weekend we went on Hy 46 (in NB) to Boerne and followed it to 16 in Medina, to FM 337 and in Vanderpool go north about 4 miles to the Lone Star Motorcycle Muesum and after that go back and finish FM.337 to Leakey. **Caution** there is some road construction for about 5 miles right before Leakey but last weekend it was hard packed and we rode it at 40mph.

You're at a great jump point to visit the Lone Star m/c museum in Vanderpool.

oorrrrrr.......
take 46 to Boerne. Hang a right at the light where 46 T's in Main St. Go north through town, then take 1376 to Sisterdale (visit the winery), then continue on to Luckenbach. Leave Luckenbach (turn left on 1376) and head north to 290. Turn left on 290 and head into Fredericksburg, then pick up 16 (turn left) and head to Kerrville. Just follow 16 through Kerrville and follow Bones' route from Medina.

Take 2766 off of 281 just south of Johnson City but first call me and I'll guide you :). Then we can take Fitzhugh Road - and a few other nice twisty spots!

Visiting the Hill Country venues is gonna take a leetle longer than a coupla hours. If you're gonna rest in NB today, you could visit the rather large HD shop out on the Loop 336, and try lunch at Rudy's world famous BBQ nearby.
As for running the Hill Country for a nice day trip, leave early tamale morning and take 306 west outta Gruene (Gruene is just nw of NB), over to US281; go north to Blanco. Take 1623 (at the only stop light on the square) west outta Blanco to the intersection of 1623/1888 - take 1888 west over to 1376 and turn right for a short run, maybe 2 miles to Luckenbach; the left turn entrance road is just after you cross the bridge.
After Luckenbach, continue nw on 1376 to 290 and a left will take you into Fredericksburg. Continue on 290 and take a left on 783 in Harper; take 783 south into Kerrville to 39. Turn right and follow the speed limits on 39 (smokies' fav area to patrol - need to ride slow anyway, as you'll be riding alongside the Guadalupe river for sometime), west over to a left (south) on 187. Motorcycle museum will be on your right ~10 miles. Only open Fri/Sat/Sun. Pretty good burgers/fries/Aussie pies/ and cool drinks if you get there before 3:00. $5 entry, butt worth it. Get a personal tour from Alan.
After motorcycle museum, continue south on 187 to Vanderpool and a left (east) on 337 over to Medina; then a left (north) on 16 back into Kerrville. Some technical corners, they're marked.
After Kerrville, you can run 290 east to 281 in Johnson City; then south on 281 through Blanco and to a left on 306 and back into Gruene/New Braunfels. OR, if you're heading on to West Tejas, jump on IH-10 in Kerrville, and depending on time of day, find a stop in Junction/Sonora/Ozona or points west, or stay overnight in Kerrville - plenty of chain motels.
Ride safe. Enjoy the Hill Country; our prized backyard!!!
