View Full Version : Fob Battery Change?

I got work this morning and my Fob won't lock the bike. It worked fine on Saturday and it unlocked the ignition to drive in. Usually I press it once to lock the locks and then once again to arm the alarm. So far this morning when I press it the locks don't lock and the lights don't flash. It is only a year old but perhaps I need a new battery?
The spare fob is at home so I will have to wait to check it. One major question I have if I go to Radio Shack and get a new battery do I somehow have to relink it to my bike or does the Fob have the proper codes hardwired in? I don't want to change the battery and then be unable to disarm the starter interlock. Are there any other conditions that would inhibit the locking sequence?
Bike is a 2007 with factory alarm.

I doubt it is the battery. My FOB has been working fine for four years. I have noticed that in some locations there are strong RF feilds that interfere with the FOB such that I have to hold it right up against the bottom of the top case to get it to work. But when I come out after work I can unlock it from 10 feet away. Go figure.
Now as for needing to reset after battery change, I can't help you as I am still on the factory battery.

I lost my FOB and got a replacement. The procedure in the Alarm owners manual book works good. The "correct" code should be on a "credit card" looking thing.
The battery should last a good long time. I would doubt it needs replacing yet, but, YMMV.
If you push the "lock" button, does a little red light light up? I believe mine does. This would let you know if the battery still works. I think the receiving unit is near the back of the bike, so try the fob at the back end to see.
Finally, when you shut her down completely, there is a red LED on the dash that will flash the number of FOBS programmed.
There is probably a procedure in the book about battery replacement as well.
Good Luck,

I had to change my battery in both of mine. Went to RS for the battery and it only lasted 1 week. Went to Wallmart and got a two pack for the same price and still using those ray-o-vacs after 2 years. The FOB will sync with the alarm. You will just need to hold the button down for a few seconds the first time or you press it rapidly a few times, don't remember which, but I remember it was easy.

My FOB eats batteries for lunch - some reason the batteries get discharged in my FOB.
I would say batteries do not last more than a month - at most. So off I go to eBay and buy 10 for $4.00 . . . Eveready CR2032

One Month Battery Life
Youve got to be pushing the button somehow during the non riding times. Mine was original and used for 58K (I know mileage doesn't count, but, as a commuter it gets used a bunch, not just sitting) before I lost it. I now use the spare and have the one from Beemerboneyard as my spare. Still the same battery.
I don't take any special care storing my FOB either.
