I'm about to tear all the tupperware off my LT to give it a good service.
Since I bought the bike (1000 miles ago), I've known theres been a slight oil leak from somewhere underneath. If I park the bike after a run, it drops a spot or two of oil. Obviously I need to sort this, and would like to do so when I have it stripped down for service. As the oil is so well spred around, it is quite difficult to pinpoint where EXACTLY it's coming from. From the pictures below, can anybody point me in the right direction? any weak areas? any advice at all appreciated.

I just had a timing cover seal replaced at my 24k service. It was hard to isolate w/the tupperware on. My leak was much more messy, but in the same general area on the fron of the engine.

Hi Simon

The timing cover is a weak spot for oil leaks. There is no real gasket so you need to use some type of silicon instant gasket. I used permatex ultra black following recommendations from this board. No further leaks so far.

Doing the job is quite involved and fiddly but I managed it with no real problems using no special tools. You'll need to drain the engine oil and the coolant for starters. The important part is ensuring both mating surfaces are properly clean.

If you decide to have a go I can send you some info I got from another forum.

It looks more like a leak from the oil/water pump assembly where it is joined to the main engine block.

I've no experience of a leak here but the clymer manual shows that sealant is used as a gasket.

Looks like you will need to drain the oil and coolant. Unbolt the unit, clean the surfaces and re-seal although I'll bow to the knowledge of those who have actually done this job.
