A friend and I are planning to trailer to Gillette for the national rally. I have a brand new 16' V-nose trailer set up to carry any 4 bikes. Even 4 LT's would fit easily. Condor chocks, E-track, twin axle Road Force trailer. The third rider just broke his leg today, so I still have space for 2 experienced riders and bikes. We'd be leaving Stroudsburg, PA on July 11th and returning on the 20th or so. We'd get there about 5 days before the rally opens and plan to ride through all the famous great and scenic roads out there, including Yellowstone NP and many other places. If anyone is interested in joining us, write me off-line at "henitsl@ptd.net", or reply here. We'd share gas and hotel expenses. Once we get there, we could stay together or you could ride your own ride. Trip is flexible but for the dates going and coming. I'm taking my 06' LT and my friend his 06' FJR. We're both very experienced riders, and members of the Skylands BMW Riders Club in New Jersey. Riding out there is not possible due to work obligations, and trailering in my Nissan Titan CrewCab with computers, GPS and most importantly, air-conditioning, is the only way to go in the middle of July.

On the contrary, your invite is enough to make me look at bailing on my family vacation. That is definitely the way to go from as far out as you guys are coming. If I didn't have a previous commitment, I would be waiting by the side of the turnpike in Ohio. Save your butt for the riding out there. Have a blast and enjoy!

Trailoring...Tisk! Tisk! Seriously, sounds like a great plan. See ya in WY...I'll be the one with severe MonkeyButt.

When I bought my LT and had to trailer it home (it was February), I made a sign for the back of the trailer, got the idea from this forum, the sign read:

"I'm taking my BMW for a ride, Harley style"

Sorry, no Harley jokes. Offer is still open. However, if any of you riders are out there on the slab and stuck, I'll definitely stop and offer a hand. Should have plenty of tools and such in the trailer, as well as space if anyone is stranded. It happened to me in 2002 in the middle of Oregon on my way to Redmond for the rally, when the FD in my 99' K1200RS blew out.

Les,
Thread hijack:

Hi, Les - good to hear from you again! How small is the world...

This K12RS, which I bought from you 6 years ago, served me well and had a good life. No problems outside of small maintenance issues; a great machine.

I just sold it last month - it was purchased by a rider who will be moving to Spain in the fall, taking the bike with him. I am actually jealous of the motorcycle - spending the rest of its life riding in the Pyrenees!

I see that you joined the LT crowd. Hate to tell you, the curse of FD's remains here; my previous LT blew the final drive a couple of years ago en-route near Bangor, ME. Of course, glutton for punishment, I bought another cursed bike, the GS, and am heading on it up to Labrador in two weeks. Wish me luck.

Enjoy the rally!

Returning to scheduled programming...

Hey Robert, good to hear from you. I'm glad you had no problems with the bike. After I sold you the RS, I bought a 2002 R1150GS which I sold a couple of months ago. I also have a 2006 K1200S, which is a fun bike to ride fast and in the twisties, but not as comfortable as the LT. I'm very aware of the FD issues on the LT, and watch it carefully. I've changed the FD oil at least 4 times in 8K miles. Easy to do. Stop by the Poconos some time and we'll ride somewhere. I'm still in Stroudsburg. Have fun on the Trans-Labrador highway. Are you riding up to Goose-Bay. I had planned out that trip once, but never got around to it. Now we're heading to WY for the rally. Why don't you join us. Great roads out there. Perfect for your GS. I've got room in my enclosed trailer and tow vehicle. If not, stop by some time at my home. There are very nice roads here in the Poconos.
Take care, Les,

Fellow MOA members:

The offer is still open for anyone interested in getting to the rally in comfort and style. Only 4 weeks to go!
If not, hope to see everyone there.
