I have a weird problem with the new autocom and the SPIII.

When the SP3 is plugged in any of the jacks I get a hum almost like a ground loop when the unit outputs sound. I have it connected through the Garmin power cable that came with the unit. I modified it so the power is plugged into the Centek and then installed a mini jack on the coax. I ohmed it out and all and checked it with other equipment and it worked with those. I also tried the supplied cables from Autocom as well to no avail.

The SP3 will work (sound normal) when I plug it into the mini powered speakers from my old computer.

I have checked all the inputs to the Autocom with different cables and my MP3 player and they all function normally.

It kind of sounds like an impedance mis match to me. Does anyone know if the output jack on the bottom corner of the SP3 can be used this way or do I need the other power cable that uses all 4 pins (2 power, and 2 sound)?

Thank you for all your help.

Are you using the Autocom 172 cord?

I used a GLI with my 2610 and Autocom Pro M1 and have no hum. did have a feedback issue, but unplugged one side of the inputs and it went away and works properly. Could probably look at it and give more info if you need it. Shoot me an email if I can help.

Randy,

Thanks for the info. I'll borrow one from a friend who is a audio freak, I'm sure he'll have one kicking around.

I'll be in your neck of the woods the last week of June on our way to the Dragon. Actually staying at the motor inn, happened on it by dumb luck.

Cheers

Cool! If ya get a chance, PM me before ya leave. If ya got a little time, I can point you to some roads that are as nice as the Dragon, but you can't buy a shirt or decal. But you usually don;t have the traffic either.

The Mayberry Motor Inn? I can't remember which one that is. I never pay attention to motels and exit numbers at home....
