Hi to all of you nice guys here! This is my first day in the forum.
I want to buy the K1200LT and join the big happy family of LT owners!!
I entered here trying to find if and when a new LT model is planned to be released in the coming year (it is not that the engine is weak, but the one mounted on the GT is quite more powerful).
I prefer the LT to the GT because it is far more luxurious and comfortable.
Could anyone give a hint or any info that would help?
Thanks in advance,
Yannis

Information on the '09 LTs has already been released in the US. They are the same as the '08 models, except that they only come in black.
Look for an announcement near the end of this year on the '10 LTs. :)

Hi Yannis,
05 Model was introduced in year 04 in Europe. So, I would not be suprised if the new model would be introduced a year earlier in Europe.
But, I would recommend 07's and 08's for reliability point of view. Any new major design change takes at least 2-3 years to take the bugs out.

Thanks to both of you!!
I forgot to mention that I do not live in the US, but in Europe (even though this is irrelevant, anyway :) )

Hi Yannis,
I'm with You my Friend. I too am a new/old guy lookin' to purchase a new LT.
I went to my local dealer to take a look see at the '08-'09 models. The sales person told me the only difference between the two is that the '09 model does not have the intercom sysyem on it for the rider and passenger.
He stated the reason being was the exchance rate between the U.S. dollar and the euro, being that the euro has more value, the company had to eliminate the intercom system to keep the price down here in the U.S.
I've been a Goldwing rider for many years, but really liked the LT when I took it for a test ride two weeks ago. The ride ia about the same with the LT being a bit more responsive and a bit more comfort. The other selling part for me was if I bought a Wing with all of the options that the LT comes standard with it would cost me about $2000. thousand more.
Granted I haven't ridden a LT across this great country yet, but i'm lookin' forward to it, soon.
Now, I asked the salesmen about the final drive issues i've read about on this site. He said to me that the company has pretty much taken care of that past problem with the new models.
Incidently, just for FYI purposes, Honda announced a few days ago the '09 Goldwing is going to be 2000cc and totaly revamped from the ground up.
I believe BMW will soon follow in the same way with the 2010 model.

Do you recall where you found about the new Goldwing?

1) Honda (motorcycles) *never* pre-announces new models. It would kill current sales.
2) Highly unlikely a new model will be introduced and built in a plant that is scheduled to close middle next year...

Do you recall where you found about the new Goldwing?Like Harry said, Honda doesn't announce new models early, the announcements will come this fall. Also with the Marysville plant scheduled fore closure, most dealers expect changes in the VTX and GoldWing lines that are currently built there. They hope there will be new VTX models for 2009 as they are a little dated, but none of them know for sure until official announcements this fall.
Here is the rumor started mid March and resurfaced mid April:
Honda Motor Company today announced its plans for the new 2009 GL-2000 Goldwing touring bike. The new Goldwing will replace the industry-leading GL-1800 Goldwing which went into production in 2001.
The 2009 GL-2000 Goldwing will feature a larger 2.0 litre (2000 cc) 6-cylinder engine matched to a new 6-speed transmission. Honda claims the new engine will produce 165 horsepower and 157 foot pounds of torque. "This new powerplant and transmission should provide the kind of power and torque Goldwing owners have come to expect" a company official says. With the new 6-speed transmission, the 2.0 liter engine turns only 2,500 rpm at 70 miles per hour.
The new Goldwing will increase the safety of its riders with standard ABS brakes on all 2009 models. A rider airbag is also available as an option on the level 4 model.
The 2009 GL-2000 will be offered in the following configurations:
Standard features on all 2009 GL-2000 Goldwing models:
- New 2000cc 6-cylinder engine with 6-Speed transmission
- Linked ABS brakes (front and rear)
- Dramatically improved suspension with adjustable pre-load front and rear
- 6.9 gallon fuel capacity
- Adjustable seat (can be raised/lowered up to 1.5 inches) and rider backrest can be moved forward/backward.
- Adjustable windscreen (electronically adjustable is optional)
- Cargo capacity has been increased to 45 liters per saddlebag and 65 litres for the trunk.
- Heated handgrips and heated seat
- L.E.D. tail/brake lights and lighted trunk spoiler
- New instrument cluster includes speedo/tach/engine temp/voltage/ambient temp/gear indicator/tire pressure/trip computer (see below)
- DC Accessory Outlet in dash glovebox
- Trip Computer displays: Miles to Empty/Avg Miles Per Gallon/Current Miles Per Gallon
-Intercom features improved audio quality and passenger volume/on/off switch
-Honda Warranty 3-year Unlimited Miles (up to 4 year optional extended warranty)
BASE MODEL - includes comfort package (heated handgrips and seat), ABS brakes front and rear, 85-watt 4-speaker stereo with MP3/iPod connector.
COMFORT PACKAGE - includes BASE model features + electonically controlled windscreen, Homelink remote garage door opener, integrated anti-theft device.
$20,499
PREMIUM PACKAGE- includes all comfort package features + 120-watt 4-speaker stereo with MP3/iPod connection/optional XM/SIRIUS radio/Bluetooth capability, Electronic tire pressure monitoring system, integrated NAVI navigation system with Bluetooth remote programming capability using MapSource and compatible laptop, integrated fog/driving lights, HID Xenon headlights.
SAFETY PLUS PACKAGE - includes all PREMIUM features + Rider SRS Airbag restraint system, rear-end collision proximity alert system, electronically controlled cruise control.
In addition, the completely re-designed Goldwing offers owners lower maintenance costs with easier access to regular maintenance areas such as air cleaner, oil drain plug, oil filter and oil dipstick. A quick-remove engine protector plate has also been added to guard the oil pan from potential damage caused my road debris.
The new Goldwing is expected to appear in dealer showrooms in September 2008 and will be offered in the following colors: Pearl White, Pearl Yellow, Pearl Orange, Illusion Blue, Black, Titanium and Illusion Red.
While the rumor seems to have some plausibility to it, there are clearly problems in this 'announcement'. Additionally according to the owner of a Honda dealership, this 'announcement' never crossed his desk. Most believe the 2009 models will still come from Marysville with only some color changes, with the redesigned model from Japan as a 2010 model, announced next year.
It is also widely believed that the next generation LT will be a 2010 model. If BMW announces the new LT next year, it could be an interesting year.

I must say that GL 2000 with the Premium package is an interesting setup. Any idea what
kind of MPG you can get with a 2 liter motor turning 2500 RPM ??

Yes, I got it from the Goldwing Road Riders Association Board (GWRRA).
They stated they just got the offical information a couple of days ago.
No, it wasn't an offical statement form the Honda corp. And how they got what was printed, I don't know.
However, I do know a year before the ol' 1800 came out, there was the same type of "rumor" out there about a new Goldwing coming out the same way this one is being talked about. It ended up being pretty much what the present GL 1800 is today.
So, as thing are these days where it's hard for a large industry such as Honda to keep a secret for very long, I wouldn't put out alot of cash against that it ain't so.
I've been wrong a time or two. If I am, i'll 'fess up to it. But, I don't think I am.

As a member of both this board and the GL1800Riders board, I can assure you that this 'announcement' is bogus; and was posted quite a while ago by a GL member who was posting a fantasy 'wish list' for the new Wing.
Sorry to puncture the bubble.

After I wrote the above, I went back to the Goldwing riders message board and saw that Randy was right in want he stated above.
The announcement about the 2010 model Goldwing was written back in late April.
It starts out with the statement as was said with, "Honda just announced..."
etc.
Now I was told by my local BMW salesmen here in Michigan he heard BMW was going to change the LT model in 2010. He stated he didn't have much info. except he believed a six cylinder was going to replace the four. Same type of rumor thing.
I think it's reasonable to believe this could could be true. It's something fun to talk about anyway.
We shall see.

Sorry to puncture the bubble. No bubble here. I made it pretty clear in my post you quoted that this info was bogus. While it was initially may have been a wish list, it has been rewritten as an 'official' announcement and floated on a number of GW discussion boards. The poster above read it on the GWRRA board and took it to be true.

Well I wouldn't be too surprised. Since they just moved production back to Japan, it makes perfect sense to start anew. New facility, new people, new robotics, new tooling. I just converted from Wing to LT and I'll be first to sign up for either a new Wing or a new more powerful LT. Don't get me wrong, I like the LT but I really really really miss the torque of the 6!
